Car Seat Covers

Good morning! I'm sorry if these have been discussed before and I've missed it but I was wondering what you all are doing about keeping your babies warm in their car seats. With DS1and2 I used the bundle me but I've read so muh information lately that they are not safe for baby. I've been looking around to find another alternative other than just blankets and have found the shower cap style covers but didn't know if someone else had used something previously or has one they are excited about.
Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Car Seat Covers

  • I have a JJCole one like what you're talking about and I liked it/like it.  It has a zipper on it so once we're in the car or indoors I can quickly unzip it so they don't get to hot.

  • I got an actually car seat canopy from www.carseatcanopy.com. Granted I will probably still cover her in at least 2 blankets.
  • I used them for ds1 last winter and it worked amazingly. I'm planning on using it again this winter
  • The shower cap style ones, I believe, are safe to drive with because they only touch the outside of the carrier, so they cannot mess with the straps.  Anything that that goes behind baby (like the bundle me) or under the straps makes the car seat unsafe (or less safe).

I just made my own cover (like the ones from car seat canopy) but made it with a cotton fabric and a flannel liner, so I'm hoping that's warm enough.  It's actually really easy and cheap if you have access to a sewing machine.  I'll probably put a blanket directly on her too (after she's buckled in)
  • Shower Cap style are safe. Any kind of cover that has to go around the straps, are not safe and will void your car seat warranty.

I used a shower cap style one with DD and will do so again with this LO.

  • so I have a stupid question--FTM--so I have received a couple of these and they wrap around your car seat but 1 zips up and has a velco so you can see the LO and the other one its all just covers baby and all.  Are these safe to hide the baby?  Once in the vehicle do you take the cover off so the baby can see?  And thats the same with the zipper/flap do you cover the whole baby with it or make sure that the LO's face is showing?  Thanks!

Does it look like a sleeping bag or a shower cap? Shower cap (that just covers the top part of an infant seat) are fine. The kind that look like a sleeping bag and LO goes down in it - not fine.

OP: I'd return the BundleMe and get this JJCole one instead: https://jjcolecollections.com/car-seat-cover

I was told the same thing.  We will be using the JJ Cole one we used with DS.
  • Thx ladies! I too had heard the shower cap style were safe.
Unfortunately, I can't return my bundle me bc I already used it with previous babes before I learned it was unsafe. Just trying to do what's best for this one and not make the same mistake over again. Live and learn I guess.
Anyway, I had seen that JJ cole one and just wasn't sure how warm it'd be. But you ladies seem to like it so I think we will give that one a try!!

I live in northern IL (right by Lake Michigan) and it routinely gets around 0 + crazy windchill in the winters here.  I've had several local mom friends recommend the JJCole cover  because it is so warm. I hope that helps to put your mind at ease a bit. :)

  • I haw a "cozy cover" brand shower cap style, a canopy from carseat canopy.com AND 8 have a shower cap style bug cover for the summer that's mesh. I got the two shower cap style ones at my shower, I was only planning on using the canopy and a blanket.

  • I returned the bundle me to get the car seat cover. The Bundle me isn't safe because it goes between baby and the car seat. You're not supposed to have anything that goes between baby and car seat, including those head supports. The JJ Cole car seat is ok because it goes around the car seat like a shower cap and doesn't interfere with the function of the harness.
