April 2014 Moms

Help distract me!

There's an ongoing terrorist attack happening here in my city right now and I could use some fun distraction.  Something to help me get my eyes away from the news.  I haven't posted so much recently b/c of time zones, internet working, etc - sorry gals.  But, I could really use some fun distraction right now if you can help me!

Tell me something fun you did this weekend...or a yummy food you had (let me live through you...i miss so many places in the States!)...or something fun you are gearing up to do!  Or even a funny story that's happened recently!  Anything!  Please share :)

(Nairobi.  It's bad.  Maybe folks have seen it on the news.  We're on day 3 now.  It's a Somalian based group called Al-shababa (connected with al-Qaeda) that is causing the attacks.  Here's a great recap of what's happened so far on BBC if anyone wants to check it out HERE .

  • I'm so sorry , I hope that you are in a safe place. So something fun, I live in the Northeast, and fall is up and going. Yesterday my son picked out the biggest pumpkin ever, he's super proud of it and told me thathe loved his pumpkin and it needs a face.

  • I am so sorry - hope you and your loved ones stay safe!

This weekend we celebrated my birthday. My parents drove out (6 hour drive) to celebrate, which was wonderful. We haven't celebrated together since I was in college. In a way, it made me feel like a little kid, but in a good way. I usually don't get a great celebration because my MIL's birthday is less than a week before, and we have always gone to spend it with her, so mine is more of an afterthought, so having a whole weekend about me was really special! My mom made me pumpkin bread and a cake with candles, plus one of my favorite meals for dinner. It was so special.

We are safe...thanks :)  We were there the 2 days prior - it's our fave mall to go to.  What's your fave meal she made you?  Sounds like a wonderful weekend!

I miss fall!  I love how little kids pick out the biggest pumpkin - my son did that last year!  I thought it was so funny!  Have you carved the face yet?

  • It's all over the news here now :(

I wanted to buy apple cider donuts this weekend but the store was sold out! I settled for a pumpkin roll to celebrate the first day of fall!

  • Oh my goodness! How scary! I heard about this on the news this weekend. SO glad to hear you are ok! I will definitely be praying for you and the others over there and the victims/families.

Tell us more about you and your pregnancy! What symptoms are you having? Are you going to find out the sex? Is this your first?

Thanks!  We're doing ok and taking all precautions.  Even packed some bag - just in case - and have an exit plan - again just in case :)  Thanks for praying - it's so appreciated!

Hmm, my pregnancy?  It'll be my 2nd baby if I deliver.  I have a son that just turned 2 last month and is incredibly ACTIVE!  And as of this past week - a major talker!  It came out of nowhere really - I was concerned for a while that he wasn't talking - but this week he's like "hey, i can chat with you!".  It's really cute.  My fave thing he's saying is "Rachel" (his aunt's name) and it comes out like "oh shit".  ha!  Besides that - this is my 4 pregnancy and so far I haven't been too sick (unlike with my son).  I heard that women in higher altitudes (which is like us here) have less m/s.  I don't know if it's true or not...and the fact that I'm not eating processed foods (b/c I make everything from scratch) - but those things seem to be helping me out this pregnancy.  I've had nausea and getting sick - but only like 10 times.  We will find out the sex - I didn't want to - but just with being overseas and planning - I think it's a wise decision to find out.  Other symptoms - I swear I'm feeling little flutters - but I think it's too early for that (I'm in my 12th week).  Thanks for asking!! :)

Not yet, we will wait until a little closer to Halloween, plus I like to gut it and make pumpkin seeds, usually garlic salt and pepper and cinnamon sugar. Are you stationed there for work or do you live there permanently?

  • How fun! I'm sure your DS keeps you at least a little distracted! He sounds so cute! I love that age.  It's so fun to hear them talk and carry on conversations!

I wish I could make stuff from scratch, I've just been way to lazy and fast food is WAY to close to my house haha.  My poor H. I've only cooked probably 4 times since I got my BFP.

Ok, so I wish I didn't have to cook from scratch all the time - a little convienence here and there would be lovely!  It's been hard with not wanting to cook sometimes or eat.  Ugh!
