Shower?

I've read some posts about bathing junior, and I have seen that several people shower with/ give junior a shower. I haven't tried this, and it seems intriguing, but how exactly would you do it? My concern is that she wouldn't like water in her face. How did you go about introducing it? Thanks!

Re: Shower?

  • We started showering with DS immediately. Like at a week old. As he got older I'd bath with him and DH continued to shower with him. Now when I do bathtime, I have DS in the bath alone but use the hand attachment to rinse him down. DH still likes to shower with him.

He just got used to it I gues. Honestly, when I wash DS's hair, I just put the hand shower over his head. It goes down his face and he doesn't even notice. He'll even stand under the shower or walk through it on his own.

I think just take it slow and let them get comfortable with it. I don't know any other way you'd do it.

  • We do showers from time to time - while visiting my mom who doesn't have a bath in the guest bathroom, after pool time, and sometimes when only one of us is home with him and need to shower!

When he was teeny-tiny-er, we just held him against us so the water hit his back, not his head/face/eyes.  Now that he's older, we just make sure we direct the shower head so there's a spot it doesn't hit, in case he doesn't want the water on his face/head.

  • We have a non stick bath mat and I let him walk around the tub as he pleases. Sometimes he wants to be in the stream, sometimes he wants to splash on the floor of the tub. Sometimes he tries to knock my shampoo bottles down but you can't win them all I guess.

  • LO comes in the shower with me, she used to sit and now she stands. She had different toys and books to entertain her and we sing songs. It helps to have a shower head that is hand held and detachable from the wall. Once in a while i'll hose her off in the shower when she is covered head to toe.
  • I have one of those small shower rooms that has the bench in it so we get all of his toys set up and he just plays on the bench and the floor while I shower. I try to use one of his soaps on myself when we do this since I worry about my own body wash splashing around and getting in his eyes (I've splashed my body wash accidentally in my eyes and was kind of shocked at how much it burned despite being gentle and hypoallergenic). He never gets cold so it doesn't matter if the water hits him or not. He usually likes to run through it like it's a water park.
