Uppa baby Vista in the burbs

So I bought this stroller before LO arrived, when I was living in the heart of downtown Chicago. There, everyone has a UBV or Bugaboo, occasionally a city mini, etc. After LO was born, we moved to the burbs. Although the UBV works wonderfully with the keyfit adapter, I'm finding that the whole combo is much to heavy to be taking in and out of the car everyday. A few weeks back, I bought the key fit caddy and life has changed! It is so much easier to get out and about with LO. I am thinks we will use that combo until LO out grows it and then buy an umbrella stroller. My UBV now sits gathering dust. Did I really buy a 700 plus stroller that is useless? Just wondering how often other suburban moms use this stroller. TIA!

Re: Uppa baby Vista in the burbs

  • It is largely a personal preference. I used my UBV daily when dd was smaller. Even now, I prefer my UBV over our Gluxe because of the ease of steering and basket size. Of course the Gluxe still gets a ton of use...

  • The keyfit caddy has a huge basket. My main issue with the UBV is that it is heavy and difficult for me to fold for multiple trips in an out of the car. If it could just stay assembled all the time, I'd be golden. We will look into a g luxe once she is old enough for it.

  • I use the UBV regularly around the neighborhood and out and about. I don't really think it's that heavy, I think infant carseats are a much bigger pain to lug around. I do have an SUV, so there's no issues getting it to fit in the back. If I had a sedan it might be more difficult.

  • I'm currently using it with the keyfit adapter and it goes in and out of the car multiple times a day/week.  I don't think its that heavy, but I also have a bumbleride indie twin that is a beast.  I use it for grocery shopping/target runs, because the basket is so huge.  DS is also 15 1/2 pounds at 2 months so just hauling the carseat around is not convenient.  So we use it to take and pick up DD from preschool.  The bumble ride is currently gathering dust in my garage.  My MIL bought it for us, but I'm thinking that it wasn't super necessary now.

We also have a UB Gluxe, but I don't think I'd put DS in it until he is several months older.  Oh and I did just order a britax b-agile.  I think I will like that more than the g-luxe.  Did I mention we also have a Bob Rev single?  Ha ha.

  • I'd imagine an UBV has a great resale value, esp if it's in mint condition.  If you're thinking of getting rid of it, try selling it on Craigslist.

Our friends live in downtown Boston and has an UBV - simply b/c everyone else has one.  I don't think they use it much at all - they live on the first floor of a brownstone, but that still translates to about 6 steps they have to haul the UBV up.  My friend (the mom) is 4'10" and weighs <100lbs, she's physically incapable of carrying that thing up!  Plus the sidewalks around where they live are notoriously narrow.  Her husband uses a Beco and that's mostly how they go out with their daughter.

I live in the burbs.  From 0-6m, I used a snap n go.  AFter 6 months, we went and bought a City Mini GT.  I love it for daily walks on a bike path near us, however, I *hate* it when I have to put it in the trunk to go anywhere; it's pretty heavy and it takes up the whole trunk (we drive a midsize sedan).  Down the road I think we'll get a G-Luxe for trips to the mall/museums.

  • FWIW, we lived in downtown Chicago when DS was little, and had a City Mini, and I LOVED it! Used the car seat adapter when we drove, and just the seat the rest of the time. It was perfect!

Now we're expecting baby 2, and live in the 'burbs. I sold our City Mini and bought the Britax B Ready, which is very similar to the UBV, because it can be used in so many different configurations with 2 kids.

I still keep an umbrella stroller in the car, and got a double umbrella stroller for the car when the baby is big enough. But for walks, or big outings, I am very excited for my B Ready!

So if you think you might have anther kid, don't get rid of your UBV!

But yes I would probably invest in an umbrella stroller too, for convenience. I had one in the city too, along with my City Mini. Unfortunately I think it's unreasonable to think you can get everything from one stroller.

  • I,live downtown and if you want to sell your vista, but like it...Try the Cruz. It's just like the vista, but lighter and narrower. I love it. I agree, everyone downtown has an UBV! Haha. Also if you have the bassinet or the accessories a lot can be used with both strollers.
