What to wear?

For those of you with outside babies, what in the world are you wearing? I'm almost 3 weeks PP and I can't find anything to wear. I can't wear my regular jeans yet (they'll zip, but it's not a pretty sight or very comfortable!) and maternity jeans are uncomfortable because they're always sliding down and they accentuate the still kind of there bump. At home I pretty much exclusively wear yoga pants but it makes me feel like a scrub to wear them to the grocery store and out to eat. On top of that I don't know what to wear on top. Tank tops are easiest to nurse in but it's getting cold out so I have to layer (usually with a hoodie). I just want to feel good in what I wear and not look like a scrub! So what do you do in this awkward in between stage?

  • My yoga pants are my best friends. At least they're not sweat pants... I think yoga pants are acceptable to wear out. I honestly don't care if people think I look like a bum, I just had a baby! :)
  • Do you have any dresses or skirts that would fit?
  • I wear skirts out of the house and tank tops. While its not cold where I yet, when it gets cold ill just wear a cardigan over the tank

  • I'm not quite there yet, but I plan to live in leggings, tunics, and boots.

I'm wearing my maternity jeans a lot and pre-preg tops that don't hug too closely. Also, lots of dresses. Edited for typo
  • I rotate between my first trimester shirts, maxi skirts, and two maternity dresses. However, I just turned chilly here so I have no idea what I'm going to wear. In my free time I need to run out and get something. ::eye roll:: I need to get on the leggings and tunic train.

  • I wear the fold over jersey knit skirts from Old Navy.. Love them, and I think they're only $15 or so online right now. I wear yoga pants at home, but like you, I feel like a slouch if I wear them out in public. For tops, I got a couple looser tops from ON, and I wear a spaghetti strap and nursing bra underneath so I can pull my shirt up and still be covered,

  • I feel exactly the same way! It is driving me nuts how much of a slob I look like! I also had a CS, so the incision falls right where all my waist bands fall making any jeans, maternity or not, so uncomfortable! Can't wait for the clear to exercise so I can start feeling better about my appearance!!!

  • After DD was born I wore my maternity pants that were low rise, the full panel jeans didn't stay up. I also wore my bella band with my pre-preg pants. Basically I dressed like I did in the late 1st tri/early 2nd tri. I plan to do the same this time around. I also invested in a few nursing tops so I had a little easier time nursing if we were out but was able to feel like I was wearing "normal" clothes.
  • Honestly? PJs. Or nothing.

But if I HAVE to get dressed - maternity jeans and tanks/tees with a hoodie. I'm still super sore at 3 weeks PP so I am not really leaving the house unless I have to.
  • I'm in the same situation. I stare at my closet forever wondering what to wear when I have to leave the house. At home I wear tank tops and loose fitting pajama pants or lounge pants. Today I went to church for the first time since DS was born and I wore my black maternity skinny jeans, a black tank top and a pink cardigan, that way when I nursed I could pull the tank top up, and the cardigan would still cover my body. I still didn't feel right because the pants are too big, but my pre-pregnancy pants are too uncomfortable to sit down in still :(

  • CS incision hurts if I wear anything besides PJ pants.... so I sent DH to stock up on a few black pairs, at least that way it's sort of dressed up?  Haha. I've made a nice wardrobe out of those, nursing tanks, and cardigans.

  • I wear my pre pregnancy jeans/pants with the belly band.covering the zipper/closure to hide the fact I'm not buttoning or zipping. For up top I wear a tank top underneath a maternity top (for length) so far its been working as most of my maternity shirts were short lived because I got pretty large and they were all too short. Now they're perfect. And the built in bra.top tanks underneath hold up the girls without too much fuss and cover my midriff when I pull up my top to feed DS
  • I wear dresses. Dresses with leggings if it is a bit chilly. Most of mine are starting to fit me again. I have a few maternity dresses I still wear too.

  • I have to leave the house tomorrow for the first time, for baby's two-week check-up, and I have no idea what I'm going to wear. I've been too sore to go anywhere up til now and have been living in pajama bottoms and nursing tanks. With a robe when it's chilly. I have a bin of post pregnancy clothes I used with DD but it's up in our attic. I keep forgetting to have DH bring it down, and now I won't have time to wash anything in there before my appointment in the morning. So I guess I'll have to make due with a maternity dress? I gave away my maternity jeans months ago because I couldn't stand anything the least bit tight on my belly. So now it's like I have literally nothing to wear!

  • 2 weeks pp - for heading out in public I have been wearing leggings with nursing tanks and cardigans, or jeans. My maternity jeans are pretty loose so I think I can fit into my pre baby jeans. Need to purchase more loose tops for nursing, however.
At home I have been wearing same as pp, yoga pants or sweats with a tank or tshirt.
  • I have one pair of capri length jeans that are maternity but not full panel. It's just a wide elastic waist band. I wear those or my maternity leggings with maternity shirts over nursing tanks on top. Since BF is going well I plan to buy a few more nursing shirts from Gap or Target. And I think I have one pair of real jeans that will fit but I need DH to bring me a bin of clothes from the attic so I can look for them!
    DS: 2/17/11          DD: 9/4/13
  • I'm in maternity jeans, yoga pants or any pre-pregnancy drawstring pants. For shirts I either wear nursing tops, short sleeve shirts or loose long sleeve shirts. I had packed most of my pre-preg clothes up so I need to go through it and find my cooler weather clothes. I keep saying I don't want to go shopping until I know what size I'll end up but I don't have a lot of casual clothing since I have to dress up for work so I think I need to hit up Target or Old Navy or something.

  • Last year old navy sold some awesome stretchy cords. I have three pairs that I wear out a lot, and leggings, and yoga pants. I'll squeeze into my pre pregnancy jeans if I have a very baggy top on :)

And maybe find some cute cardigans to wear over tanks? That way it might be a little dressier so you feel a little more put together than wearing a sweatshirt all the time.

Soon enough we'll be back to our pre-pregnancy, stylish selves! :)
  • Thanks everyone! I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with what to wear!

  • Around the house I'm wearing yoga capris and nursing tanks with a shirt over top.  It's still hot here so I don't need to bundle up. I haven't tried regular pants yet - I've been sporting my maternity shorts (all with just the elastic waist, not a full panel). I still have 16 lbs to lose so I don't feel like squeezing myself into regular clothes just yet.
