Tethering a rear facing carseat

We just moved DS into his convertible seat this weekend. As we we're installing it we noticed the tether. I watched a britax video and read the instructions on how to tether a rear facing seat but it doesn't look like my car has the hooks for rear facing tethers (I have a 2013 ford explorer). I was able to find info about tethering when the seat is forward facing in the ford Manual and saw the appropriate hooks.

Is tethering as important when the car seat is rear facing or is it more important when he's forward facing?

    FWIW we do not currently have them tethered.

    Hmm I'll have to look into that....because I could easily attach I to something under the passenger seat. the britax people just show you a bolted down hook thing and so I figured my ford must not have it. I did see it in my car for when he's forward facing. Thanks @Jessiebug81!

    I couldn't figure out how to tether our Radian or Evenflo.  However, I feel like both are safe without the tether.

    That is true for most seats. Britax and Diono seats are the only ones approved for RF tethering.
