Okay, so I didn't specifically make the news.. no names or fabulous pictures or anything.
A friend and I were shopping on our lunch break at Walmart (FFFC?) and as we were leaving there was a car running not far from where we were parked. The window was cracked enough that you could fit your arm in and the AC was running. My friend thought she saw a baby in the back seat. I stopped in my tracks when she said that and got near the car to look in the back window. Sure enough there was a fucking baby in the car!!! The temp outside was in the low 90s and the a/c was full blast so I honestly don't think there was harm for the child to overheat.
The baby looked pretty big, but was in an infant carrier so I assumed not much older than a year. We sat on the curb and decided we'd wait for the mom to finish shopping before we left because honestly I was terrified of the baby getting kidnapped. Five minutes goes by and then ten and I started just becoming more and more shocked. I decided to ask on FB if anyone would call the cops or if we should just keep waiting. EVERYONE and I mean everyone said to call the cops and not hesitate. I have never had so many comments on a status that fast until then. I made the comment that I didn't want to get a mother in trouble because sometimes I know we are just trying to stay afloat. Then I realized it didn't matter and that what she was doing was WRONG.
We called the cops right away. While my friend was on the phone with the police the baby started crying and it turned to screaming. It was breaking my heart and I started crying. I decided to open the door and calm the baby. She was actually sweating and her hair was getting wet from it. I lost my shit internally. I was shushing the baby and rubbing her legs. I noticed that the "baby" was huge and there was no way she should be in an infant carrier still. The straps were incredibly loose and the poor girls diaper was to her knees because it was so full of pee. Anyway, while my friend was on the phone with the PD the mom came to her car. Conversation went as follows:
Me: Is this your car?
S (stands for skank): Yes, what are you doing?
Me: Why would you leave your baby unattended for 25+ minutes for anyone to have access to?
S: The a/c is running, it's not a big deal. I don't appreciate you getting in my car.
Me: I don't appreciate you neglecting a child...oh and then kidnappers and all.
She loaded her things in the car as fast as she could and drove away like a mad woman. We gave the PD the license plate # and there was nothing more we could do.
Then this story is in our local news reports today......
https://www.ksl.com/?sid=26928742&nid=148&title=mom-accused-of-leaving-baby-in-car-while-shopping-&fm=home_page&s_cid=featured-2She didn't think she was doing anything wrong because the A/C was on... serious? I'm glad the police followed up.
Also, thrilled to know she had a 21 month old in an infant carrier....I'm guessing said baby was well past the CS limits.
Re: Fun AW again! I made the news... sort of.
@thechimichanga, I wish. Those were my exact thoughts as I was waiting for her to come out of Walmart. She looked about my age so early 30s.... No free pass for her!

Even though it was obviously a sad event and I wished it never happened my husband has found a way to find humor in it. ONLY because he actually called me right when I opened her car door and I started crying because the whole situation was overwhelming so he quickly let me go.
Once everything calmed down he felt it necessary to say, "remind me that if anything traumatic happens in our lives to sit you down in a corner while I try and handle it." He thinks he's soooo funny because I usually buckle under pressure. He realizes the severity but is just trying to be funny!!
