Not the microwave!

So I'm heating up my dinner in the microwave and all of a sudden DH throws out his arm and says "Don't stand next to the microwave! You're pregnant!" I just gave him this look like seriously? This hasn't been an issue until now. Then at work the next day, a coworker said almost the same thing. Really?

I'm not concerned about it but I'm wondering if anyone else has been caught of guard by others worrying about something you are doing is potentially harming the baby. I'm not talking about the side-eye as you eat your turkey sandwich. I mean, I have never heard of this microwave thing and then boom! 2 people in week 25.

Re: Not the microwave!

  • One of the secretaries at work scolded me for carrying a stack of papers and the workbook they were copied from against my abdomen. Apparently she thinks the pressure will hurt the baby. I had a student carry it (I wasn't concerned, but the kids love to help anyway).

DH doesnt like me poking on my abdomen because he says it will make dents in the baby's head. He's said this twice and I'm still not sure if he's serious or not.
I poke my tummy all the time he kicks lol but my hubby says the same thing.

  • My students don't let me do much...I call them my pregnancy patrol. At the end of the day I move the desks back into rows (mind you, these are light desk/chair combo things and are maybe a few inches from where they should be) and the girls freak out, saying I can't because I'm pregnant. I assure them that I lift over 100lbs at the gym, but the guys start moving the desks for me anyway.

  • Ha! My husband says the same thing. He freaks out and yells at me to stop because she'll come out all dented up. I'm like, when you read one book, or anything really, about pregnancy, then you can tell me what's ok and what's not. For now, zip it and watch the show.
  • Haha, is it 1985?

I remember my mom telling me that as a kid. I think it's been debunked by now :)

  • I remember people telling me that as a kid. Unless you have like a dinosaur of a microwave, I don't think it is too harmful.

I did get scolded by grandma last week though because my little 3 year old cousin was half laying on me while playing with an iPad! And she was scared it would fall and hurt the baby.

    A) the iPad isn't that heavy.

    B) it was barely and inch or 2 on top of me, so I can't imagine it would cause any damage To me or baby LOL.

  • I had my laptop resting on my lap the other day, and DH freaked out and said the radiation might get to the baby!
