Toy cleaner

I know what some of you were thinking... Get your minds out of the gutter ;)

All the flu shot talk got me thinking... Cold and flu season is coming, and I babysit two small children (2 1/2 years, 13 months). Right now I use Lysol and then rinse with water, but I'm looking into more natural, chemical free ways to clean and disinfect them, if that's possible.

What do you use for hard plastic or wooden toys? Soft toys?

TIA!

Re: Toy cleaner

  • Aha! Would not have thought of the freezer. If I've taken the batteries out, could I do that for soft electronic toys?

What ratio do you use for water and vinegar, 50/50? I've seen a lot of differing measurements on google.

That phrase always makes me laugh. :)

I don't go nuts about toys. If we have the flu or stomach bug or something awful I'll spray everything and air out the house. With my son I do put his chew toys in the dishwasher from time to time. But I'm not diligent about it.

  • I run a Clorox wipe (yeah, not natural) over them all every six months or so.  If I were babysitting, I'd probably bleach them or toss them in the dishwasher and/or washing machine once every couple of weeks.

  • Before I started babysitting again I wasn't super concerned about cleaning toys, but I've got a combination of my school age kids and two other little ones coming into the house. With the amount of toys, going over everything with Lysol and then water is a PITA, and by the time I'm done for the day I just want to make dinner, tidy up, and relax.
