DS has had severe reflux for forever. We've been so used to it and have slowly gotten fed up with it. On Labor Day, we went to our friends' and DS had another one of his really bad days. His throat got so irritated from throwing up that he started spitting up blood. This happens a couple times a month. We decided we were going to start talking about doing the Nissen Fundoplication surgery more seriously. I called his GI doctor to see what our other options were. We wanted to exhaust all options before doing surgery. She has him on a blenderized diet now, with other medication options. The new food is helping some, but still throws up. I made an appointment with his surgeon to find out what his thoughts were. He wanted to have an upper GI done to see if his stomach was even big enough to do the procedure. We were able to get that in right away! He called with the results saying his stomach is small but doable, and his esophagus is really big. Knowing his reflux his affecting his esophagus so negatively really helped us make up our mind. We have surgery scheduled for the middle of October, and we're able to cancel it if DS has major improvements. We wanted to give him time to outgrow his reflux, but it's just not happening. So that's an update of DS, I'll let ya know when it gets closer to surgery time, would love your extra thoughts!
Poor guy! You are doing the right thing. He must be miserable. I think it was good to wait and see if it cleared it self up, but it looks like surgery is the right thing to do. He's a tough guy! Keep us updated!

Sounds like you are being great parents and looking out for his best interest. I hope it helps him, that has to be tough on him and really tough watching it. DS had reflux and screamed during bottle feedings when he was smaller, I'm sure it was nothing compared to the pain you all have been going through. Praying for your family and hope everything goes smooth!
That's a tough decision, but I'm sure you are doing the right thing DS had reflux too when he was young, but thankfully, he did outgrow it. I cannot imagine still having to battle that. Sending thoughts!

All of this. You are a really good mama to this lucky little guy, T. I hope that the surgery will help him get rid of the reflux. Hugs to you, my friend!
Sorry you have to go through this with LO, but its sure sounds like he is having a tough time and hopefully the surgery will be helpful!! Good luck and we'll be thinking about you and your DS keep us posted!
TTC#1 May 2009- July 2010 on our own with no luck
Started with RE in August 2010, dx with unexplained IF and then finally our 3rd IUI cycle using Follistim and Trigger resulted in our wonderful little man. Born 12/2/11
TTC#2 Never really prevented, but were careful early on as Dr. reccomended
Surprise BFP 12/16/13, started progesterone immediately as first numbers came back low, but betas were good. Progesterone wasnt enough. Natural MC 12/24/13.
Now's of course when I'm thinking (no need to answer of course) "Wonder if our little guy's share a GI doc?"...
Here's hoping this helps the little guy! He's been through so much already!
What does your DS see a GI doc for? Sorry if I missed it. Ours is young and Asian.
Thanks to everyone else for your T&P already. Since the doctor visit, we've gotten more and more calm about the surgery. We see how bad is reflux is and we can't stop thinking about how much it will help him. Now I can't wait for it to hurry up and get here. I'm thinking about everything I need to pack and I'm getting so anxious. It will be here soon enough!

DS has been "loosey goosey" for going on several months now... I don't post about it.. He's literally the only person in the family who's on THAT side of the spectrum.. It was odd when it started, I gave him some blueberries (we were testing an intolerance) and ever since he produces one formed poop about once a week and the rest not so much - who'd have thought! (I'm typically one who is NBD on this stuff, but after it rounded the month mark I said "something isn't right here!".. and off to his ped we went.. After a little "let's wait and see" and stool samples, we were sent to the GI doc, which took a while to get in, and we're in the process of trying to figure out what's going on because he was fine up until that point..)..
Your description doesn't sound like the guy we're seeing, ours is a middle-age guy who's too fast of a thinker for DH to keep up LOL..
It'll get figured out, it's just a royal PITA... Just opened one letter that I thought was just a release form for test results from his primary only to discover we get to do yet another round of stool samples (which as you know are SO easy with a non-potty trained boy)... Ugh!
