When did you slow down?

For those that were not on bedrest, or at least not until late in the pregnancy, when did you slow down? I know there was a thread about not working past 24 weeks, but I'm a photographer and I've already slowed down and planned to stop entirely by 30 weeks. But, that's still 4 weeks away and I'm exhausted! Its so physically hard to be on my feet for any long period of time! I just don't want to cause myself to have problems, but so far I'm doing well.

Re: When did you slow down?

  • I stopped working at 24 weeks (was a high-school teacher) and was put on modified bedrest around 30 weeks. I really wanted to work for longer, and felt great when the schoolyear started, but, like you said, being on your feet all day is hard when carrying two babies. Everyone is different, though; what's most important is that you listen to your body. Are you having any other symptoms besides the exhaustion? I started getting lots of contractions, which led to a PTL scare, so that's what caused me to leave work earlier than I expected. Make sure to discuss any concerns with your doctor, and don't feel bad for taking it easy if you need to. Things can change very fast in a multiples pregnancy. GL and hang in there!

  • I really slowed down right after my shower which was around 26 or 27 weeks I think. That's when I started feeling like I couldn't breathe and just overall really heavy and fatigued.

  • I'm 24, almost 25 wks now and I have been feeling especially tired lately.  I brought it up with my OB along with some pica symptoms starting, and she recommended my iron/blood levels be checked.  Turns out I'm anemic.  I've been taking iron supplements and although I still tire easily, it's not a exhausting as it was.

Sometimes I start noticing more contractions the busier I am. But, my ob doesnt seem concerned since they are never in any regular pattern and some days I hardly have any. The days I do feel them, I try to lay down most of the time. I guess I feel better that this seems to be the normal time to feel this way! I guess it's time to consider taking it easy and hopefully I won't develop any issues.

  • For me, I pooter'd out around 26 weeks, then I got a second wind. Another "wall" at 28 weeks, then a third wind, and by 32 weeks I was done. I stopped working around 34 weeks, then delivered at 36 weeks.

  • I just had a project that had me working just about around the clock for 5 days. I'm finally at the end with only clean up work to do. I am really surprised I made it through. I'm 29 weeks. I had more energy than I thought but I think it be just determination. I am taking it easy from here on out. I am lucky to have just a back ache!

Hi Kim I posted that thread about stopping working at 24wks. Seeing other women's stories about how and why they did or didn't really helped me understand that everyone's situation is different.

What I concluded from all of that was that only you know what you're capable of and doctors can put restrictions on you but if you think you can keep going then you need to live your life. It's important to understand that if your dr has legitimate reasons for you to stop then that's a different story.

If your doctor said work till 30 weeks then go for it. I have a bunch of friends who are photographers. A lot of them get very physical at work but some sessions can be easy and they don't have to move around a lot.

In theory, can you book less physical type of sessions for the next month? My guess is you're doing things like school pictures, engagement shoots, or baby pictures? You couldn't do a whole wedding could you? Then like the pp said rest extra on your down time. Comfy shoes too! Good luck!
