Thoughts on this name?

So my husband is really pushing for Theodore as the baby's name if it's a boy, but I just don't like it. It's his grandpa's name, and I was very close to my grandpa, so I get that, but I just do not like that name--not any of it's nicknames--at all. And he wants it to be the first name and he wants us to call the baby that.

Also, my daughter has names from both of my grandmas, but in all honesty, she wasn't named after her. It just happened to be my favorite name.

Thoughts?

  • Hmm, I guess it a good thing we've got 7 more months to think about these things, names are tough!

I have to say, while I wouldn't use it myself, I do really like the name and like the NN Theo. I wasn't too keen on the name that my husband wanted for our son, but over time it grew on me and we ended up using it...it was really important to him. Now I couldn't imagine our son named anything else.

I personally think it's precious! It reminded me of Theodore the chipmunk, and he was my favorite. So cute. But if you don't like it, you don't like it. Maybe y'all should keep searching until you can find a name that you can agree on, or compromise somehow and use part of his grandpa's name (middle name maybe if you like it better?) as your son's middle name. But you could have a girl, so you might not have anything to worry about at all!

  • I love the name Theodore. I do think you should have veto power if you don't love the name. Good luck!

  • My DH would love to name a son after his grandfather also : Donald. I hate it so no way its happening.
  • I personally think the NN Theo is adorable. My DH vetoed it immediately. Maybe y'all can settle on it being a middle name.
  • I think Theo or Teddy is so cute. Though maybe because of Little Women :). Gotta love Christian Bale!

  • I agree with everyone else- love the nn Theo but if you don't then you should have veto power. My husband wants to name, if a boy, after his grandfather- Chester. I'm not the only one who always thinks of Chester the molester, am I?? Definitely a no go for me.
  • I love it. Theo for short

I feel like you should most def have veto power! I actually don't mind the name but you're mommy and you should love the name you're going to be calling to dinner, writing on little hats and coats and book bags... So exciting! Pick a name you both love! Honor grandpa by making sure the little one gets to know who he was and knows where he came from on both sides! :)
  • I actually love it but if you don't then you shouldn't use it! It might grow on you! Can you use it as a middle name? Tell DH you want all your kids to have their very own first names but are happy to honor family in the middle name spot!
