Movement questions

Sorry, as I'm sure this is asked all the time but whenever I do a search it comes up with bizarre things!

I am 20w4d with mono/di boys and just this week started feeling flutters/kicks.  I am feeling them every day but there is not a pattern and I also tend to only feel Baby A. (A is breech on my left side and B is head down on my right side).  I'm feeling the kicks in my lower left quadrant so I am assuming it is A.  I have felt B a few times and that's usually higher up on my right side.

My questions are:  when should I be concerned that they are not moving every hour, two hours, etc... and also, should I be concerned that I feel A much more than B?

Thanks in advance for any stories of how it was for your during your pregnancy!

Re: Movement questions

  • I'm 26 going on 27 weeks I still have a very hard time feeling B. it's normal to not feel them consistently until after week 28 that's why doctors won't even do kick counts until the 28/30 week marks. Althought their movements are much stronger now there were days even last week I would go a few days without feeling them. Placenta position, baby position all makes a difference too. So don't stress even if its a few days in between. You are still early for movement. Although each person is different this is baby 2&3 for me and I felt my singleton much sooner and more than these two.

  • I am 20 weeks and feel Baby B a lot more than Baby A. She's lower so that's reason I don't feel her as much. Like PP said, it could depend on where they're positioned, etc.

  • I felt b at 16 weeks. Just flutters and nothing consistent. Sometimes there would be days I'd feel nothing. I didn't feel a until closer to 21 or 22 weeks. A, I later learned, had an anterior placenta so any movement she made had to pass through that first which made it hard to feel.

They told me to not worry about kick counts until their movement is strong enough to not go unnoticed. For example, at 20 weeks, I still had to be holding still to feel them, whereas at 30 weeks I could be walking and it was no doubt that they were going crazy in my belly.

  • Yep, I'm 26 wks and still have days where i don't feel much from one baby. My ob keeps telling me not to worry. I felt my singleton way more than this, so it's hard for me to wrap my head around it. In my last u/s, baby a was kicking into baby b, so this also makes me wonder if when I think I am only feeling one baby, I could be feeling two. Either way, don't worry. It's normal!

  • I felt Baby A move right around 16-17 weeks.   Baby B was shortly after.  Baby A moved much more than Baby B throughout my whole pregnancy.  I never counted kicks.  Sometimes I'd only feel Baby B a few times a day.  Now that they are here they have the same pattern.  Baby A moves a ton and B is calm and chill.

  • Thanks a million ladies!!! Just needed you all to calm my crazy fears! :)

On another note, I went to a festival today and was walking around a bunch and felt a horrific tightening in my lower abdomen so that freaked me out also.  Seems like worrying is normal for everything.  I appreciate your answers!

  • A lot of MoMs feel one baby a lot more than the other. That can be due to positioning, personality, or both! My dr told me not to do "kick counts" (since that can be hard with twins) but to note changes in patterns for each baby and to call if it was outside the norm. I think when you first start feeling movement, it can take a while for it to get more regular so I wouldn't worry yet, but check with your dr; some have different guidelines than others.
