Favorite activity to do with LO outside the house?

This may be a little long winded, but here goes. I just joined instagram for kicks and was looking at one of my good friend's page. She has a 6 month old and lives in the mountains nearby. There were all these pictures of them at the beach, at various parks, hiking, having picnics, and just in general going lots of places. I live in the suburbs of a big city and stay at home. I've hardly gotten out to do anything fun with my little guy and am feeling kind of bad for it! We only ever really leave to run errands or go to the doctor. Does anyone have any ideas for fun things to do with babies this age? I'd like to get out more, but am just not sure what to do that would actually be interesting for him! Maybe I need to get on pinterest for this too :)

  • Do you have any parks near you? O find that DD loves to just be out and about on stroller rides. We go to the park and walk around and people watch. She seems to enjoying watching the "big" kids play :-)

  • We do have a park near us. We have walked through but never stopped lol. Maybe we should stop and sit for a while.

  • You should, you may find he likes looking around - its very stimulating for them watching the kids play and just seeing all the different colors on the playground equipment and kids

  • We pretty much take LO wherever we go... so he goes shopping, on walks, to the zoo and botanical garden, restaurants... at this age, everything is new, and hopefully exciting. I think he enjoys seeing new faces and new things. We'll see what happens once the weather gets colder, but he LOVES being outside. I also just bought a "family size" (?) inflatable pool that is big enough for me to sit in with him - we haven't tried it yet, but I'm looking forward to it if I can find the time before it gets too cold.

  • We get a big blanket, spread it out on the grass and lie down and look at the leaves. She would look at leaves all day if she could. Sometimes she even fall asleep so I'll cover her and let her nap outside.

  • Does the mall count?

This... we take her everywhere we go. On the weekends is usually a park, museum, the pool, and most recently a wedding.  She loves to be outdoors and people watch.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  • We haven't done it yet, but we want to take DS to the aquarium. He loves watching my SIL's fish swim around in their tanks. I like that it's an indoor activity also because it's still so hot outside. If I had an indoor mall nearby I would probably push him around in his stroller and people watch. I live in the country and our mall is an outdoor one. This is why I'm so looking forward to moving back home to the suburbs. There is so much more to do! We don't even have sidewalks here! :(

I am an early June mom, but I was lurking and figured I would throw in my suggestions of what we do. We go to the botanical gardens near us once every week or two, have been to the zoo a couple of times, go to the park sometimes, run errands and/or window shop, visit family, and go for walks around the neighborhood.

ETA: We want to go to the aquarium and art or science museums but haven't had a chance yet.
  • When they are young I think they are pretty happy with almost anything you do. I bring A to the park and on walks. I live a short walk from my nieces and nephews so we visit a lot. Sometimes I will just hold her and walk around the backyard amd she loves it. I put her on a blanket outside amd we relax for a while with toys, books or looking around outside.

A comes with me to the mall, grocery store or where ever I have to go. Almost 2 minths ago she came with me to a fundraiser dance. Next month we will be attending her first wedding.
  • I just bought us an annual pass to the zoo, so I'm excited to start that. And we're going apple picking this weekend. I think his favorite though is a walk with lots to look at overhead, so I try to pick tree lined sidewalks, etc.
  • I take her everywhere. She fusses at home but never makes a peep out. I think I bore her at home. She loves restaurants, the mall, the grocery store, the park, etc.

I'd put a Movember mustache fail, but then
you'd all have to look at it until February.
  • She loves to just be outside on a blanket, looking at trees and whatever else is going on outside.

  • Ummm to the mailbox?  LO used to be very mobile but now he won't nap in the car or anywhere we go. So then we miss naps and he turns into Baby Frankenstein. We have gone out, but its too much of a pain now. I can't wait for him to be able to sit in the restaurant high chairs.

We're getting the zoo pass this weekend! We took A to the farm 2 weeks ago and she loved looking at the animals !! So we figured the zoo would be good for us. We want to try the aquarium as well.

We have a huge front porch and A loves to sit outside and watch the cars go by and see the trees move. She's outdoorsy like her daddy lol

  • We take her pretty much everywhere on the weekends.  She goes to day care now during the week, but when I was on leave, I took her to our new moms group every week and to run errands.  We tried to get out of the house about every other day.  We went shopping just to be out.  We went to the zoo once.

  • I work full time so on the weekends we take DD wherever we need to go and try to make it fun for her. She LOVES lights and fans, no joke - she loves the home improvement stores.
