Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Teething?

My LO is 4 months. THe past two days she has not been her sweet little self.  Just super whiny, wants to be held always, and comfort nurse.  She has been fighting her naps and waking every two hours or so at night when she use to STTN. Do you think she may be starting teething?  She doesnt have a fever or runny nose etc...to attribute to a cold but she has been biting down while nursing and pulling.  She also does this with her fingers and any toys like teethers etc...I gave her tylenol and it seemed to help some.  The mother instinct feels it could be the start of teething but what has your experience been?

Thank you!

Re: Teething?

  • I thought this was happening too at 4 months. She is now 5 months and no teeth yet. Their sleep patterns change at 4 months so that happened to us as well. I think she may be feeling something in her gums but no teeth have broken thru yet.

  • Could be teething or it could just be a developmental leap.
  • My son did that too and he started off and on at 3 months and didn't get a tooth until 9 months old! He also had the exact same symptoms when he had an ear infection. Hopefully that's not it though. Thankfully DD hasn't started it yet.

  • Do you think it could be an ear infection if she doesnt have a fever.

  • It could be the dreaded 4 month sleep regression :(
  • DD started this behavior at 3.5 months and at 4 mos 1 week her bottom 2 teeth popped through so you could be going through teething.  Try the numbing stuff if your pedi says its ok and also the cold teethers work well.  DD still chews on her blankets or hands so I'm wondering if there are more teetch close behind the first 2.  Good luck!
  • I felt the same way from 3 1/2 months on. Now she is a lil over 5 months and no teeth yet. She still is sucking on anything she can get her hands on including her hands lol! As far as the sleep goes she was STTN and waking around 5 to eat then she started getting up earlier so I gave her more in her last bottle and that seems to be helping. Good luck!
  • My little guy started drooling buckets and chomping on my fingers at about 2 months.  He cut his first tooth the week after he turned 4 months.  He likes to chew on his bibs.  And he actually started sleeping more when he began teething in earnest, but every baby is different in that regard.
  • My guy is doing the same thing except all that comfort nursing is causing him the spit up a ton. I miss my sweet happy guy :(

It might be the 4 month wakeful period were LO is just busy, busy, busy. My LO (4 months this week) is a great sleeper, but she has been awake A LOT longer the last week or so. I actually had to put her down for a nap today. I've never had to do that before. She barely napped at daycare Thursday and Friday, so she was a complete fuss pot. She's also busy drooling, eating her hands, and not always wanting a full bottle. Luckily she is snoozing now. I keep saying she's been partying at daycare and sleeps it off on the weekend.

ETA:still working on pictures. Oops, forgot to insert it the magic way.
  • I think she's just going thru a sleep pattern change. It lasted a whole month for me. Look up wonder weeks.
