It's an ongoing project, but you will get the idea. It will hold 48 and then there will be more in storage which he can interchange. It will be a mix of words, letters, animals, numbers, colors and such and motor skills like magnetic, velcro, texture, zippers and other odd bits n pieces that I think of.
He has figured out how to get them off and the hook on hook ones he can get back on by himself... the hook and eye ones not so easy yet. It's a fun project and it's nice to be crafting again even if its just bits n pieces between naps and work and dinner and laundry lol.
Anyone else crafting any learning toys?
Re: Learning wall....
I want to do this in the basement when we finish it:

Both projects.. mine and the magnet board are pretty simple.. you could easily do them. Time is my biggest challenge. If you have a Michaels and a glue gun, a couple of strips of wood, some acrylic paints and some small cup hooks... voila..you have a learning wall
It's fun watching him explore it, even tho it's far from finished...I don't mind him playing with them while I am working on them as it gives me an idea of what works and what doesn't..
The glue gun glue isn't so great for some stuff when you have a lil man that throws EVERYTHING lol
Wait till they have a 40 or 50% off entire order offer.. I should have .. but was impatient lol
The wood blanks are about 79 cents each.. the sun catcher and painted wood cut outs were about 59-79 each. hooks were about $4 a pack for like 100 at home depot. packs of wooden letters are about $4 at walmart and so are the foam leter packs. I think I paid about $5 for the foam animal pack..and to be honest there were way more than I will ever need for this project..but I will use them elsewhere at some point...picture frames or greeting cards etc
Apologies for the amount of pics but posting these to show you a few ideas... it really is very simple.. hooks, paint glue magnets and velcro...and if you aren't crafty this is a great way to build fun interactive learning toys.. you don't even have to hang them on the wall if you don't want to..just store them in a wooden crate. You can find lots of random things around your house ..I used a few old fridge magnets I already had and will use old buttons and zipper and other random stuff. It's fun to come up with some new ideas.. and anything goes when it comes to learning
Would love to see what ideas you guys come up with if anyone decides to build something similar ..I am thinking about adding some relative photos too.. I have numbers and colors already in the works...
excuse any typos.. I was rushing this.. just in from work and my lil man needs some mommy time.
PS most of these are still in Draft stage,... but its just an idea
One of munchkins spoons on a hook.. will add words and letters to background later
Frog made from shrinky dink I printed from google images - adding letters/words later
Foam Zebra and foam letters these are already sticky back
Wood and foam letters to make small phrases, words and expressions
prepainted wooden animals with a wood letter glued on
Layers - - wooden tree with hanging owl sun catcher
oops forgot one
rubber critters ..these glow in the dark
Thanks... it isn't super glowy but I wanted to get a good variety of textures and such.
It's fun trying to come up with ideas of things he is already familiar with like the word Kiss and Hug and certain animals.. and then add in new things for him to learn. It's not exactly the traditional ABC's .. but I like it.
