Keeping Cards from Showers

So I tend to be a keeper of anything that has potential sentimental value, such as cards.  I was wondering if anyone is planning on keeping cards from their baby showers.  I don't necessarily want to keep all of them, but the ones where people went to the effort to write actual personal messages in them I'd like to keep.  I was just wondering if any of you had any fun ways of displaying (for the short term) and/or keeping them for the long term.  I know I could put them in a scrapbook but I just think that may take up too much room.  Anyone have any thoughts?

Re: Keeping Cards from Showers

  • I don't plan on displaying them, but I did keep them.  I keep all cards from big events I still have cards from when DS was born, and every card DH has ever given me.  You could use them as matting in a frame with a pic of baby.

  • Mine are also in a box... And I had some lovely helpers who wrote what the card giver gave as a gift. Super useful when I wrote thank you cards lol

  • I kept them all and have grand plans to put them in some sort of album or book, but knowing me they'll probably also end up in a box

  • Mine are in a box. We did have a little guest book at the shower where everyone signed and wrote nice little notes, and that will probably get tucked into the baby book.
  • Another vote for "mine are in a box" along with other keepsake type things.

  • All our wedding and other cards are just in a box as well!  I'm sure that's what I'll wind up doing with these cards too but just thought I'd see if anyone had any other ideas!  I did see on pinterest an idea of basically turning them into a 3-ring binder scrapbook by punching holes and using the rings to attach, not a bad idea, even if that goes in a box at least it'd be a little more organized!

  • I keep cards too.  I had a decorative box that one of the shower gifts came in and I am storing them all in that.  It's pretty much the same thing my mom did for me, and I did enjoy looking at the cards when I was older, especially the ones from relatives that had passed on.

  • I stole the idea from Pinterest but I cut the cover of each card into a heart and made a collage type thing to hang on her nursery wall.

I'm planning on using a heart-shaped punch to punch out some artwork from the fronts of cards and then the persons signature, making a pattern of them and framing it. It sounds terrible but it's going to be great.
  • All of our wedding cards are in a bag somewhere, kept mostly because of giving to those who got married after we did. For Christmas cards and pictures, I've put them together like a little booklet. I'll probably do the same with shower cards after Sunday.

  • Pinterest had some cool ideas of making a book type thing out of cards. It was a neat idea.

  • I admit to having a drawer full of cards and keepsakes. Problem is it's finally full, so I will have to sort through all of it and come up with a new plan.

  • I looked at my wedding cards about a month ago and decided to only keep cards from very close personal friends and family ... I did find 3 that I thought were cute and decided that I may frame them for the nursery. In the end the keepers go in a ... You guessed it .. A BOX!

So this is probably what I will do w my baby shower cards

  • Don't laugh! :) I cut mine in half to display the main message and then the inside with the writing and put them in a photo album with pics of all the gifts and a pic of who gave them to me. It's a little much but I only plan on doing this once and it's a highly anticipated baby after 4 years of trying so there were great, thoughtful messages I wanted my child to have some day.
  • If you're only interested in keeping the personal message on the inside, St. Jude's has a recycled card program.  Basically, you send them the fronts of your greeting cards, then the children at St. Jude's Ranch create new greeting cards out of them.  These are then sold to raise money for St. Jude's.  They accept any type of greeting card front.

You can learn more about the program here (clicky).

  • I bought one of those 5 gallon rubbermaid totes when DS was born and that's where I put all of his special stuff. I just stacked the cards and put a big rubber band around them and they are in there, I also had saved all of his cards people sent for 1st Christmas, Easter, etc. Also in the box is the front page of the paper from the day he was born, the church bulletin announcing his baptism, movie stubs, zoo tickets, things like that.

I figure down the road, WAY down the road lol, when I have time I can put it all together nice for him.

    I don't hoard paper.
I have ALWAYS purged things from my house every season, but in this pregnancy I discovered that I am a secret paper hoarder. :(  I had filing cabinets and boxes full of all of my uni notes from two degrees! Getting rid of it all was a huge and heavy task.

  • I will probably affix an envelope inside the baby book or scrapbook that I make for the baby to hold all the cards.

However, my wedding cards are also sitting in a box.

I feel bad, but I never keep cards. Sorry shower goers. :(
Me either.  I remember kindness but don't need a token of it I'm never going to look at again since it would surely end up in a box.

  • I could care less what we do with them. My husband is the one that's all sentimental abut them and wants to keep them/display them.

I did this as well, but in the shape of a fish instead of a heart to match the theme of our nursery. It turned out really cute. A couple of the special cards, like from my parents, I'm keeping in a memory box.
