When was your last u/s before delivery?

Stalking again from Oct '13 board... my last one was at 32 weeks b/c I am at risk for PTL and they wanted to make sure she was at a good weight in case I had to deliver early - all looked good, LO was 4lb 11oz & measuring ahead, fluid levels were good, etc. My ob told me I won't have another one before my scheduled c-section on Oct 10. It makes me a little nervous because my sister and my friend found issues at their u/s after 35 weeks that caused them to be induced early (my niece stopped growing and had low amniotic fluid / my friend's son had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck).

I'm very grateful everything looked good & that my ob has no immediate concerns but I find it odd that there wouldn't be another one.... but this is my first so i'm not sure what exactly is "normal."

Re: When was your last u/s before delivery?

  • I had one at 32 weeks (or 34, can't remember) also to check for growth, but I have no complications or risks. If I go past my due date, then I will have more.
    One DD born 9/23/13.
    We're one and done!

  • One today at 40 weeks, but befote that was 34. If i go another week they'll di one more to check fluids.
  • I had a quick one at 36 and a half weeks just to check babies position! But that may have been just because we were walking past the ultrasound room at the time and the Dr pulled me in, as I wasn't expecting it!!
  • At 36 and 38.3. Both growth scans
  • I had one at 38/5. I delivered at 39/2. Baby was vertex at the ultrasound, breech at birth. RCS though, so thankful for that.

  • Last u/s was at 22 weeks. I'm currently 38 weeks 5 days and doubt they will do another unless I go passed 41 weeks.
  • Last one was 34 weeks to check growth as I have GD.  LO was measuring "normal" at set. 4lbs. 9oz., which IMO is actually a little small.  However, the scan was to measure growth and make sure he wasn't too big due to the GD, so I guess that means doc thinks he was fine.

  • Unless there are complications - the only "medically necessary" u/s, pretty standard for most practices is the 2nd trimester anatomy scan.  Some practices don't even do an early u/s.

  • I still have an inside baby, but this is how it's going for me. I was supposed to not have any more after 20 weeks. However, I had a BP scare and she did another one at 37w3d. My amniotic fluid was high, so we did another one at 38w5d. It was still high so we did another at 39w5d. I have one tomorrow (40w5d) and it will be my last as they are inducing on Saturday morning.

  • It varies dramatically practice to practice and it also depends on your particular pregnancy. I had several toward the end because they were concerned about baby's activity level and my extra fluid. I did end up induced at 39w5d but it wasn't mandatory, they just suggested it. I think my very last one was at 38 weeks maybe?

  • I had an U/S at 32 weeks and again at 36 to check for growth b/c the Doctor said the baby was above average in weight and in the 95th percentile. I have another U/S tomorrow, my due date, to check growth and fluids. Baby is BIG according to the doc....
  • I havent had one since 20week A/S and I am currently 38 weeks. She also hasnt mentioned getting anymore so id imagine that unless a problem comes up there will be no more ultrasounds

  • With DD1 I had one around 28 weeks and then at 41w to make sure everything was still looking good since I was overdue.  This time around I had an U/S at 32w because I hadn't gained much weight and then weekly fluid checks because fluid was low.  I wouldn't have had these if they hadn't been concerned due to lack of weight gain.

  • Really does vary based on your practice. I had one at 20 weeks and then not again until I was being admitted to LD when I was in labor (just to reconfirm baby was head down).
  • Would have been 20 weeks, but I had GD so 36/37 was my last one.

  • I was high risk so I had them weekly. We saw her on Thursday and then had her on Monday for the c/s

  • My last one was at 36 weeks and that's only because she was measuring big for a long time. Otherwise I wouldn't have had one since the a/s.

  • 20 weeks. I'm not even sure they'll do one once I'm overdue. And they didn't do one while I was in labor last time (different practice). I think the a/s is the standard last/only u/s of the pregnancy.

  • I believe with AF levels, you can show other signs at your weekly visit, such as fundal height measuring small, or feeling crampier than usual. Then your OB can request an U/S right away to check.
Of course sometimes your fundal height measures small because LO dropped too! So it is not always an indicator. If I were you I'd just mention in passing that your family has a history of low fluid levels and you're concerned. Your OB can give you a better reassurance than I can.
As for the umbilical cord issue, lay down on your side once every day or night when your LO seems to be pretty active. Eat or drink something to get him or her moving around and then do kick counts. Don't focus on anything else except for LO. No TV, DH, etc. Any decreased movement should be reported to the on call OB immediately.

My last U/S was at either 32 or 34 wks, can't remember. I had 4 total because the last one was to make sure LO was gaining weight, I had low BMI when I got pregnant.

  • With dd#1, I had a "post due date" (BPP) at 41w2d which ended up being 1 day before she was born since I went into labor that night....the predicted 8lbs....she was 8.06 so they were dead on. This time I had one today at 40w2d (a week earlier than with dd#1) and the baby is measuring 8lbs 1 oz...I go back for another ultrasound on weds (41w) if the baby isn't born by then....

  • My last one was my anatomy scan at 21 weeks. With DS1 I had a growth scan at 35 weeks.
