Amniotic sacs different sizes but twins measuring similarly

edited September 2013 in Multiples

I have di-di twins in there, and the babies are both measuring the same and have strong heart rates. But, Baby B's amniotic sac seems much smaller than Baby A's, and it has been like this since my very first ultrasound at 6 weeks (I'm now 13 weeks). My RE was not concerned at all during my first three ultrasounds with her, but I had my first appointment with my OB yesterday, and he mentioned it as something to keep an eye on, saying that it is something that may sometimes be problematic and sometimes not. He didn't seem overly concerned or anything, he just mentioned it as something we should monitor. I also have an appointment on Monday with a MFM specialist to do the NT scan and my OB suggested I ask the specialist what she/he thinks.

I thought everything was going swimmingly and now all of the sudden I feel like I have something I need to worry about. Frown

Has anyone else experienced this?

  • My Twin B's sac was much smaller than Twin A's, also.  The babies measured very close in size, though.  By the time I got to my NT scan, the Dr told me they don't even really look at sac size anymore.  They just go by the amniotic fluid measurement, which was fine in my case.

  • Beautiful. That makes me feel better. And clearly those twins of yours did just fine if they can do such damage to those birthday cakes. ;)

  • Very common with di di twins. Mine was so sever you couldn't even see the baby in the sac because there was no fluid almost at all the sac was about a month behind in size. After the week 15 mark it turned around he is now the bigger twin at 26 weeks. They told me he wouldn't make it and all this stuff but they are doing good aside from my cervix not wanting to hold them in but as long as you have good heartbeats that's a good sign if mine pulled threw yours can too! I'm on mobile otherwise I would give you more insight on my story but it doesn't want to cooperate! But as pp said after a point sac size doesn't matter fluid content and heart rates are what they look for :)
