All night buffet, XP from breastfeeding board

LO is 10 days old and EBF.  She usually feeds every 2.5-3 hrs during the day.  At night she will only sleep if she is on the feeding pillow attached to me.  If/when she comes unlatched, I burp her and lay her in the crib.  She wakes up crying and wanting to eat 3 minutes later.  DS 1 did not do this.  What am I doing wrong?  How do I close the all night buffet before I lose my mind?

  • This was my night exactly. No advice, but you're not alone! Good luck! I think it's completely normal. We can do it! Lol

  • Growth spurt?  I was really excited after DS's appointment yesterday because he is past birth weight so I was thinking that I wouldn't have to wake him up to feed.  He was up every hour last night.  I ended up just pulling him into bed and feeding him in a side-lying position.

That happened to us, too. We'd have to wake DS for timed feedings but once it was on demand he would wake up screaming every hour. Thankfully it has gotten better!

  • No advice but I am in the same boat. It sucks.
  • The last two nights Henry will sleep between 9-12 then wake up at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5am then he's up for the day. I'm exhausted to say the least and he's exactly two weeks old today. Ugh!!! No advice just company in misery.
  • My DD was the same way. She was using me as a pacifier. I'd suggest getting one if you're in need. I took the other route and coslept and to thus day still do :)

This was us, almost exactly!  We had been so looking forward to the extra sleep but no such luck.  DD wasn't wanting to eat though, just screaming bloody murder if we put her down.  We ended up taking turns with her sleeping on us - she wouldn't even sleep on the bed between us.
  • How do you feel about bed sharing? LO has a hard time sleeping by herself (in the pack n play in our room) at night time so we began bed sharing. It has been a huge help. I think just having another person close by is a comfort to her. Of course we follow all the safety guidelines and I will always recommend everyone else do the same.
  • I have been guiltily bedsharing to avoid the all-night awake times.  I don't feel completely comfy with bedsharing with MH who is a heavy sleeper, and a dog- so we got a co-sleeper and attached it to the side of the bed.  We had our best night so far with about three hours of uninterrupted sleep last night!

  • My DS was like this and like so many PP have said, bed sharing was the only was I ended up getting rest.

  • We also fed using side-lying position the last two mornings. This is after I fed her sitting up. I needed some rest. I use the What to Expect Baby Tracker app to keep track of feeding and diapers. Yesterday she BF for 5h7m + 9oz formula + 2oz pumped BM. I think she gets about an ounce for every 30 mins of BF, but could be a bit more. That's how much I get from pumping.

  • Will she sleep swaddled? It is the only way I could get lo to sleep. I'd lay her down, then she'd flail her arms a bit and wake crying, only to go back to sleep nursing. I would nurse on one side immediately to calm her, then change her diaper to wake her up again, swaddle, nurse to sleep, then lay her down in bed.
  • We attempted bed sharing last night, until my 2.5 year old needed in bed with us.  He flails everywhere, so I got up with the baby and went back to my chair and the feeding pillow.  She has been eating for 30 - 40 mins today all day, then sleeps 45 mins.  Rinse, repeat.  All day long.  Thanks for all the suggestions everyone,  Glad to know I'm not alone in my nightmare!
  • DD just fed on one side for 45 minutes and then 30 minutes on the other and wasn't done. So we did side-lying because I was also tired. She fed for another 30 minutes and is now currently using my boob as a pillow hehe.

  • I'm in the same boat. LO is 2 weeks today and I think he went through his growth spurt last week. He would sleep all day and be up all night wanting to eat for hours and hours. I learned to co-sleep and breastfeed lying down and it is a life-saver! Both LO and I will fall asleep while he eats and we both get a couple hours of sleep during the night. DH hates having him in bed with us and keeps telling me to put him in his bassinet after he falls asleep but LO won't sleep in the bassinet for more than 30 minutes at a time. Of course it's easy for DH to bitch...he isn't the one that has to have an infant attached to his nipple for the whole night. As far as I'm concerned, if I can get a couple hours of sleep with him in bed with us then it's worth it. I take all the precautions of course while he is in bed with us.
