Is your booty better?

Been pretty nonexistent on the board, so apologies if this has been asked!

For mamas who had lacerations and stitches... about how long was it before you were able to walk and sit like a normal person?

I had third and partial fourth degree tears, no idea how many stitches (maybe I don't want to know!) I feel like taking care of little dude will be so much easier and more fun when I am not as ouchie.

Re: Is your booty better?

  • Hmmm. I had 2nd degree tear. My stitches haven't hurt as much as the uterine cramping. The last couple of days I've begun to feel the stitches more. :(

  • I delivered on the 14th and had two third degree tears. I feel like that pain has only gotten worse and the burning is almost unbearable when I go to the bathroom. I'm calling the doc tomorrow to make sure that the elevated pain is normal. I'm curious to see what others say. I'm ready to not be in pain anymore, too!

  • I had at least one third degree. Not sure how many tears total. MW seemed to stick me up in a million places!
By one week I was walking short periods comfortably but too much and I could feel it again. I spent this first 5 days PP laying flat unless I had to get up. That really helped.
Today at two weeks I feel great but I am still careful to use peri bottle and not wipe after going to the bathroom.
  • I was totally cut open... Not sure what degree or whatever. I am 16 days pp and can sit normally. Still gave stitches and discomfort but it's more aches vs pain.
  • I had one second degree tear. It never bothered me. The worst has been cramping and my stomach just not feeling right. If I stay on top of the ibuprofen its okay though.

  • @MrsMooney Thanks for the idea! Will definitely be trying this!

  • I am 3 weeks PP and had 3rd degree tear. I have one stitch that bothers me and it bleeds a little every once in awhile. Not sure if that is something to be concerned about.
  • 10 days pp, 2d degree tear plus tore into my urethra (ouch!). My stitches still feel sore, thank goodness for dermaplast! They haven't been itchy yet, but I can tell that they are healing. Sometimes certain positions still hurt to sit - especially on hard non padded chairs.
  • I felt better about 10 days pp. I feel pretty much completely healed now at one month.

You should make sure to douche by using water in a peri bottle as you're peeing and after you're done peeing to clear away the urine. It shouldn't sting if you do that. Then pat dry with bunched up toilet paper.

Having a sea salt bath is also helpful in the healing process. Although trying to have a bath is a different story!
  • Definitely use the peri bottle! I finally don't have to use mine which is nice because I can go to the bathroom other places than my house now haha. Let's see... I had my baby on the 11th, 2nd degree tear with stitches and I feel almost completely normal now! It was worst on the 5th day or so and then it slowly got better.

  • I had a second degree tear and stitches. The first week was rough. The second week I only hurt if I walked too much or tried to carry my 2.5 year old DS too much. Right now at just over two weeks I feel great. Slightly itchy at times. My hemmohroids are the only thing bothering me now.

  • 2 weeks and 3 days pp. I had a few second degree tears (one up to my urethra!) and I don't know how many stitches. Every morning I think they're getting so much better then by the evening I feel like I'm walking weird because they're uncomfortable and "pokey". And they are super itchy now. I thought maybe I ripped a stitch or something since they were still uncomfortable but at my 2 w pp appointment the midwife said they looked good and would probably take a while longer to dissolve.

For me an Epsom salt bath (few inches of warm/hot water in a tub with a healthy handful of Epsom salts) has been the most helpful. I don't really get any relief from dermaplast. Also keeping up with my ibuprofen to keep swelling down helps some. And up until a few days ago I was still occasionally sitting on an ice pack. Finally I still use the squirt bottle when I pee sometimes.

  • I am 8 days pp here and mine still bother me slightly. I find that, as others have said, if I keep up on the pain meds it helps as well as taking it easy. I tried doing too much the other day and since then they have been a little bothersome but nothing unbearable.
