Curly babes.

Do you style LO's curls? Sometimes Howell's look so cute and sometimes he looks like a dandelion that's gone to seed. Confession: I put conditioner in last night and it looks so much cuter today. H thinks I'm nuts but my parents didn't style my curly hair properly and I didn't learn how until I asked my hair dresser when I was 13. Life changing that was. I don't want him to grow up hating his hair like I did. Anyways, what do you do? I'm thinking of getting no more tangles.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

Re: Curly babes.

  • Oh and flame away. :)  I realize I am setting my child up for a lifetime of vanity.

  • I always style J's hair, even after I cut off his longer curls. It doesn't usually need more than a little water and coaxing into place. I also use the tiniest bit of aquaphor sometimes.

If I left his curls long like Howie's, I would probably use conditioner too.

  • If LO's hair gets unruly, we will use a very small amount of coconut oil.  I've also used Johnson's oil gel as well.

  • Oh, and no flames from me.  I used to straighten my hair all the time in college because I hated my curls.  It wasn't until I got a good hairdresser who knew how to style curly hair that I learned to embrace the curls.

  • Nothing wrong with using the conditioner!

  • No flames at all! Gotta show off that cuteness! C's hair curled early on and we used conditioner and the tangle free sprays as well.

  • @Mrs. Rhode, do you use yours or do you buy kid/baby conditioner?

  • I love that you style his curls!!  So cute!  Sammy's hair isn't as curly after his hair cut.  :(  I give him a bath at night, so I just towel dry his hair and then it pretty much gets straight from sleeping on it.  And I don't have time in the morning before work to wet his hair and style it!  Maybe as he gets older and more unruly....

I definitely hear you about not learning how to style your curly hair until later.  I was 14 and my stylist said "oh you have wavy/curly hair!" and showed me how to scrunch it.  No wonder I hated my hair, it was always so frizzy!

I've used both but started with the baby one. As she got to be about 2 the baby stuff wasn't cutting it anymore so we switched to my stuff. :)

  • No, I don't style them. I use a pick to get any tangles out right before his bath and then I just shampoo, rinse, and let dry. I must be doing something right because he always gets compliments and at the museum the other day another baby couldn't keep his hands out of ds's hair and kept grabbing for it and yelling "mine!".

This.  I regularly use coconut oil.

  • Wyatt doesn't have curls but as have as styling goes we either Mohawk it or spike the front or top daily.

  • Sadly, L's hair isn't long enough to style yet. But she has some pretty sweet little curls in back. I don't think her hair is going to be as curly as mine. When it does get longer, I will use products if needed. They didn't have any curly products when I was younger, she doesn't have to be a frizz head like me :)

  • I have a curly top boy here. We use leave in conditioner by Johnson and Johnson every night after his bath and in the morning. Or else he looks like a ragamuffin. I will use lotion too but only if its still wet.

  • When I want to style it I put some lotion in it.  But I usually only do that for church and mostly I forget.

  • I think once DS gets more hair it will be curly.  Right now the longer hairs are starting to curl and he has the genes for it.  Glad you posted this so when it does happen, I'm ready!

  • C has my hair. It's straight on top and starting to curl as it gets longer. I put a little conditioner in it every night. If I don't, it will get frizzy and tangled. I can't wait to teach her how to appreciate her curly hair. I didn't get mine figured out till I graduated HS and I definitely don't want her to deal with 18 years of frizz and headache.
  • DD's hair usually gets curlier when she sweats or after a day without a bath.  I don't do anything to it except sweep it to the side with a bow to get it out of her face.  I will be surprised if she has curly hair her whole life (everyone in our family has straight hair), but I'm loving the curls she has right now.

  • I used a detangling spray with DS (he had curly hair until his first hair cut). DD has straight hair.
