This is my 2nd pregnancy. I am 29 weeks today.
With my first I had no idea what I was doing. I went through my pregnancy alone.
Though when I went into labor my parents and father to my child were able to make it, so they did their best helping me cope with the pain.
I ended up getting an epidural. I was able to sleep for about 3 hours, till the epi wore off and I delivered partially drug free. I say partially because I felt everything
though the epi was in my system, it just wasnt working for me.
This time around the epidural is my last resort. I'd like to labor and deliver drug free.
My fiance and I are taking a class in a few weeks, but I'd like advice from moms who have been there, and taking what I learn from you guys to the class with me.
What kind of birthing techniques did you use? How did you cope with labor pains?
What positions worked best for you during pushing?
How was your Water Birth experience? This I am really looking into.
Thank you for your input. I look forward to hearing of your experiences.
Re: Coping During Labor and Birthing Techniques
I did hypnobirthing.
How did you cope with labor pains?
Warm water (shower), counter pressure, visualization and breathing (per hypnobirthing)
What positions worked best for you during pushing?
Ive ended up on my back both times... Not sure why! This time I'm going to try more positions.
How was your Water Birth experience? This I am really looking into.
Haven't had one. Sorry!
Right now I am doing hypnobabies. It is a five week course, so you would still have time if interested. Their theory is self hypnotizing and being completely awake and un-medicated during birth.
Wow, I'm jealous that you have a tub in the hospital! I'll be giving birth at the third different hospital with this child and none of the three have had tubs, only showers!
I recommend a doula, midwife or assertive coach. I wanted to labor in the tub, but as often happens, during active labor I froze up and couldn't make sense of the situation ("laborland") and ended up standing over my bed most of the time. Still it was ok, but it could have gone better. This time I have a midwife!
For DD, my active labor (2 min apart, 30 sec) without coaching - was at home for a bit, walking the hospital floor for a bit, standing at the bed leaning forward, then in the bed on my side.
