Hmmm... My LO is EBF and I've wondered the same thing. Her poop seems to change a lot. I don't think it has ever looked like batter but it has always soaked into the diaper. Has she had diarrhea her whole life??
I wonder the same thing. His poop is very liquidy but it's always been like that. He has a milk protein allergy. When I was eating dairy his poop was green and very seedy. I stopped eating dairy and now it's brown and liquidy. I'm wondering if he is sensitive to soy. I'm going to ask his dr. next week what would diarrhea look like.

Same here! Some days it's the yellow color, but most days it's more of a dark yellowy-brown color and it's never had any solid form to it. But she's never been fussy or gassy and doesn't show any signs of dehydration. Her poop has always been on the runny side though.
I took S to our pedi about this once because daycare thought she had diarrhea and I panicked because to me it it was her normal poop consistency and I thought maybe she's had diarrhea her whole life and I didn't even know.
Here's what our pedi told me: It's normal for babies to have liquidy poop, it's the color that really matters. If it's black or red, I need to call. If it's purple, blue, green, brown, yellow, whatever else, don't panic. As for consistency, true diarrhea will not be contained by a diaper. It will pretty much be water even if it is colored. He said we'd be able to tell because runny is one thing, water is another.
Our pedi also said to look more for "different than normal" rather than one specific type of stool. Also, consider baby's mood and feeding, and if everything else is business as usual, then one weird poop isn't really an issue.
I used to know so many lines to that awful diarrhea song, and now I can't think of a single one. Something about going down the stairs, right? Maybe a jungle/rumble rhyme?
Our pedi said G's poo was borderline diahrrea, but it's like that so often, he's hydrated, and he's gaining well, so she didn't think it was worrisome. It's gotten better since eliminating soy, but not so much that it's thick like cake batter.
Our pedi said it would look like the diaper had been slimed. And probably smell bad. I used to worry, as LOs poo was always pretty liquid, but she had a diaper full at one pedi visit, and the pedi said "yup, perfectly normal." It usually absorbs mostly with some seeds on top. The only time I've ever seen cake batter was once recently, after she hadn't gone in three days. The very next one was back to liquid.
Re: poop! sorry! lol
Sorry I am so immature.
