Baby Names

So complicated!

So we had picked out a name - Abigail Nichole. But then my husband decides to drop a bombshell last night when I got home from work, he doesn't want a name that is on the top 100 list.  So now we're back to the drawing board...

Our requirements are that its a longer name you can shorten (Abigail - Abby), its not on the top 100 list, no "J" names, its not a name already in our family, and my husband doesn't like names that could be a city (i.e Savannah, Brooklyn, etc).

We do have several names on the list but none got that "feeling" that thats what the name should be: Mercedes (Sadie), Addalynn (Addie), Nichole (Nicky), Danielle (Dani), Penelope (Penny), Eleanor (Ellie).  I like Ellie but not really Eleanor.

Sooo any other ideas for us?

Re: So complicated!

  • I like Penelope from your list. It's important to consider that even though "Addalynn" is below the Top 100, it's only one spelling variant of an extremely popular name. Sometimes the SSA list is misleading that way. I would caution against Adeline (any spelling, or similar Addy-names like Adele, Addison, or Adelaide) if you don't want something popular.

    Suggestions:

    Lillian (Lily)

    Gabrielle (Gabby, Brie, or Ella/Ellie)

    Isabelle (Izzy, Belle, Isa)

    Vivian (Viv, Vivi)

    Eliana (Ellie)

    Juliana (Julie, Jules)

    Josephine (Josie, Jo)

Margaret (Maggie, Margie, Midge, Peggy, Greta, Pearl, Daisy)

Alexandria (Alex, Allie, Lexi, Sandra, Sandy, Sasha, Andie)

    Cassidy (Cassie)

    Evangeline (Evy, Angie, Lena)

...Also, this might be too weird for you, but DD2 is Tallulah (Tilly, Tally, Tallu, Lulu, Lula, Lulie).

  • Gwendolyn (Gwen, Winnie)
    Magnolia (Maggie, Nola)
    Jacqueline (Jackie)
    Genevieve (Gen, Gennie, Vivi)
    Delilah (Dee Dee, Lilah)
    Francesca (Frankie, Fran)
    Tabitha ( Tabbi)
    Antoinette/ Antonia (Ann, Annie, Toni)

  • I really like Eleanor. If you don't like it, how about Eleanora ? NN could be Ellie or Nora.

Some from my long list (some nn's may be stretch I know):

    Georgia (Gia, Georgie)
    Elnora (Nora)
    Colleen (Lena)
    Corinne (Cory)
    Annora (Annie, Anne, Nora)
    Eudora (Dori, Dora)
    Evangeline (Angie, Eva)

  • If we ever have a girl we are considering Teresa, after MIL, and calling her Tess.  Others I like are:

    Rosemary: Rosie/Rose/Romy
    Genevieve: Evie/Vivi
    Caitlin: Cate
    Vivian: Vivi
    Aurora: Rory
    Margaret: Maggie
    Camille: Millie
Eloise: Ellie (Since you don't like Eleanor)
    Matilda: Tillie

  • Margaret, Matilda, LIllian, Vivian, Alexandria are already on the list.  All but Vivian are on the top 100 list though.

I kinda like Tullalah but hubby doesn't.  He doesn't like Tabitha or Deliah either.  So many names I like but he doesn't like so I'm kinda running out of ideas!
  • I like Penelope, Genevieve, Piper, Parker, Christiana, Georgia/Georgiana but Nicole with a H isn't my favorite. We had a girl with that and in elementary school everyone teased her and sneezed when they said her name. If you want something different but like Nicole, how about Nicola. I heard it in a British movie and loved it ever since!

(Mercedes no... It's a car, not a baby)
  • Charlotte (Charlie) or (Lottie)

    Samantha (Sammie)

    Sophia (Sophie)

Elizabeth (Liza), (Liz), (Betsy), (Beth), (Lizzie)

  • The top on my current list for baby #2 is Lillian (Lily) and that may work for you. I also like Josephine (Jo) - which is my middle name. I also love above mentioned Delaney (laney). Not sure if these are in the top 100 but I doubt they are.

Mercedes is a legit name.  It's a Spanish name and it was a character in the Count of Monte Cristo (written before the car existed).
  • On my list I have:

Mary nn Molly (I'm pretty sure both are in the top 100)
    Edith nn Edie

    Also,
    Lucille nn Lucy
    Camille nn Millie

  • Natalia/Natalie nn Nat, Tali, Nattie
  • I've always loved Elizabeth but we both have cousins named that so its out (too many double and triple names in our family!).  Nichole is my middle name, but I like Nicola, will have to see what hubby says when he gets home.  One of our cats name is Cami (short for Camilla) so Camille is out.  We had Lillian, Margaret, Charlotte, and Matilda on the list but they are all in the top 100.  Vivian is currently on the list but I'm not so fond of that.  A lot of the names listed above that I liked, my husband didn't like or they were on the top 100 list. Hes just making things difficult lol
  • A few more ideas:
