Mommy Groups..

Being the first out of my friends to get married and have a baby it has been hard for me to find other moms to socialize with. Does anyone know of any reliable websites to find mommy groups or any focusing on the NY area?

I am pretty shy and get nervous about going to peoples houses that I dont know but I'd really like to get out and meet other moms. After reading the SoCal moms gathering , it really pushed me to start looking for mommy groups but havnt been successful.

    This is how I found 2 groups I attend. One is twice a week walking/fitness and the other is random events once a week (I've attended a few but not each week). I chose ones that I could go to and do a "drive by" to see if I was comfortable before joining them (ex - the walking group, I could have just kept walking around the neighborhood and the other first meetup was lunch and shopping at the mall, again I could have kept walking).

    Do you have any neighbors with younger kids? They may know of other people with babies around your child's age. Also, doing the public options like the library would be an option to meet new friends who may already be in a play group and would let you join. I love the in home play groups, but I've had a personal contact with each one I've done over my 3 kids. I'd feel weird going to one where I didn't know anyone. Finally, maybe check with the hospital you delivered at. Sometimes they have FTM support groups that naturally lead to play groups forming.

    Our neighboring libraries have them. Check their websites, they usually have a tab for kids.

    I so wish I could find a mommy group! I live in a small town. The library has not had anything scheduled since I moved here. I've gotten really close to trying to befriend strange moms at the grocery store.

    I just looked into meetup.com and there actually is a few in my area! Thanks for the recommendation , I'm excited now lol

    I tried local libraries but the youngest they accept children for story time or other group activities is 1 yr old.

    I did find swimming classes but Im scared!! The whole submersion method freaks me out!!

    I live in the same neighborhood I did when I was a kid and at that time there were so many kids to grow up with but not anymore. Its been difficult finding mothers with young children.

    The dunking is great. I was so nervous about it but not one of the babies cried. To say they loved it would be a bit strong but they definitely didn't mind.

    Thats the only thing holding me back from doing swimming, im so nervous about it!!

    I'm in Northern MI and there's not much here either. Nothing on meet up. The 2 things we could join are a playgroup and library story time and they just so happen to be on the 2 days a WK I work.

    Have you tried the hospital you gave birth at? I know our hospital has a mom's group every week and it was a great way to get more info on stuff that you're going through and meet new moms

    I was lucky to find a couple of groups on FB for local moms.  Maybe try that.  I've only had two meetups so far one for a family potluck picnic at the park and the other for a mom's night out at Painting with a Twist.  They were formed by local moms and other moms just joined along the way. It's worth a try looking to see if that is an option.

    Check with the hospital.  The hospital system where I delivered has four or five groups.  I used to go to the Thursday morning one when I was on leave.  Now I go to the working mom's group once a month on Saturday.

    Random I just searched my town Colorado Springs moms and found two mommy and me playgroup and just moms.
