What do I really need?

Hello!
Im due Oct 23 with my first.  Im doing my registry completion and was wondering if I was really going to need this stuff.  Please give me your feedback and whether you like this stuff or can live without it.

Air purifier ( I have a cool mist humidifier, so I wasn’t sure if I was going to need this too.  We also have a fan to keep air circulating)

Sound machine

Baby gym

Also,  for those of you breast feeding and pumping and occasionally supplementing with formula, how many bottles do you have and what size are they?  How many nipples and what flow are they?

What’s  your favorite breast pads and cream?

Thanks!

    1. Do without. It's so humid here that we hardly ever need a humidifier so we did without that, too.

    2. We got the Sleep Sheep and love it! Baby falls asleep much quicker with the heartbeat sound on.

    3. Didn't put it on our registry but someone gave us one. Still haven't used it.

    4. We have 4 4oz Medela bottles. I rarely use them, however, because I'm a SAHM and breastfeeding. I usually only use one, maybe two, on the weekends so DH can let me sleep at night or during the afternoon. We only have one nipple and it's whatever one comes with the Medela electric double breast pump.

    5. I really liked the Lansinoh and Medela pads. Hated the Johnson&Johnson ones I tried. I bought Lansinoh lanolin but I used expressed BM and olive oil much more often.

  • Air purifier: don't have one. We have a humidifier and we only use it occasionally

Sound machine: don't have one. Our bassinet vibrates and plays music though

Baby gym: don't have one. LO plays on my bed or on the carpet with me

Also, for those of you breast feeding and pumping and occasionally supplementing with formula, how many bottles do you have and what size are they? How many nipples and what flow are they? : I am a sahm and i have 1 bottle. It's an Avent with a slow flow nipple. Baby is 2 months and has only taken a bottle 4 times.

What’s your favorite breast pads and cream? I use babies r us brand. They are cheaper than the other brands and work great. I used medela cream the first couple weeks but my nipples aren't sore or cracked anymore so I just use a little breast milk on them
  • Air purifier : we just have a humidifier Sound machine: white noise is great when lo is overtired or overstimulated, we use an app for this though on the iPad instead of a machine: Baby gym: started using ours around 6 wks and now we use it every day, only thing that keeps her occupied :) Also, for those of you breast feeding and pumping and occasionally supplementing with formula, how many bottles do you have and what size are they? How many nipples and what flow are they? :I am ff only but got my bottles when I was doing both, LC recommended playtex ventaire with wide nipple. ( we have 3 6oz and 3 10 oz bottles and only use the small ones ) What’s your favorite breast pads and cream? No answer sorry

  • Air purifier.  You might not need it.  We use ours for white noise.

Sound machine.  We don't have one of these.

Baby gym.  Yes!  Our LO loves loves loves his play mat.

Also,  for those of you breast feeding and pumping and occasionally supplementing with formula, how many bottles do you have and what size are they?  I have 5 Dr Brown's 4 oz bottles (will get more for when I go back to work).

How many nipples and what flow are they?  I'm just using the nipples that came with the bottles.

What’s  your favorite breast pads and cream?  I have Lanisoh and Evenflo disposable pads and want to get reusable cloth pads because the disposable pads feel harsh on my sore nipples.  I use the Lansinoh Lanolin HPA cream for my nipples after I shower.  It helps some but mostly I just try not to think about how much they hurt.

  • Air purifier: nope

Sound machine: we do the sleep sheep on the ocean setting because it sounds the most like the shhh-ing we do to calm him.

Gym: absolutely! I have two- one in lo's room and one in the living room. I use them when my arms need a break or when he seems to be in a squirmy mood. He loves it!! On behalf of the June '13 moms, may I recommend the Fisher Price Kick and Play Piano mat. All of our babies LOVE it!

Bottles: LO was in the nicu for a week so I started pumping right away (now I ebf unless DH is alone with him). I have always just used the bottles that go with my Madela pump.

Pads and cream: only ever used lanisoh and it worked great for me.

Sound machine Eh, we used ours a little. Our pedi swears by a radio on static turned low

Baby gym I liked mine, but I was glad my mom bought it. If you are talking about a bouncer then yes!

  • LO is 6 days old, so i'm not super experienced yet, but FWIW:i don't have an air purifier, but i do have a cool mist humidifier. ready for winter!LO loves the small portable sound machine, and it was useful to bring over to the hospital when he had to be admitted for phototherapy treatment for jaundice. familiar sounds. :)i have two baby gyms from friends that i plan on using for tummy timei'm EBF, was gifted 3 Dr. Brown bottles and 4 Tommy Tippee bottles. i also have 2 Medela bottles that came with the breast pump replacement tubing kit. i don't plan on introducing bottles until around 4 weeks. i think all of them are the newborn/smallest flow nipples.LOVING Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter. and i'll be using Bamboobies reusable breast pads. my milk just came in and it's dripping all over the place. =P
  • No air purifier.

We use old iPhones as sound machines, just download a white noise/sounds app.

Activity mat is a must if you have more than one kid. If you just have one, it's nice but not necessary.

Bottles and pump stuff: do you plan on going back to work? We wash bottles and pump stuff in the dishwasher, so I have enough to get me through running of the dishwasher bc I don't have time to hand wash everything w a 3yo and twins. We run our dishwasher every other day usually, so I need two day's worth of bottles and pump parts when I go back to work.

I like lansinoh products, but try out a few kinds to see what you like. I leak frequently, so pads are a must. Some people don't leak. I don't like lanolin cream.

  • Need: Place for baby to sleep.  Doesn't have to be a crib.  We just have a PNP.  And then a car seat.  That is all your baby needs.

Nice To Have: I constantly use my Aden and Anais blankets.  They are extremely versatile.  I really like my baby swing, he sleeps in there most nights since he's still rolling over and not able to roll himself back.  I also like his vibrating bouncy chair during the day.  My Baby K'Tan is helpful when he wants to be held but I have things to do around the house.  I love the My Brest Friend pillow for breastfeeding.  I much prefer is over the Boppy.  But I like the Boppy for tummy time.  Also a good White Noise machine has been essential around our house.  Finally, lots of swaddlers.  My little guy LOVES being swaddled.

That's pretty much all we use.  We didn't go crazy and register for a lot and did a "no gift" shower, so we didn't get a bunch of stuff we'd never use.   I'd say the only thing we don't use that I thought we would is the travel bassinet that I thought he would sleep in when we travel.  He hates it so he sleeps in his car seat when we are on the road.

  • 1) Have one, but haven't used it yet. Thinking about returning it, since LO doesn't seem to mind the way our house is.

    2) I know lots of moms who swear by sound machines, but they also make apps for that.

    3) I would highly recommend one. It's a good activity to do with baby once they become more alert

    4) I have 3 small TT bottles with the low flow. It's more than enough since I STH and EBF. I have 2 bigger Playtex drop in bottles for when she starts eating more.

    5) I used the cream they gave me at the hospital, and a jar of mother's love. Didn't really prefer either or, and I didn't have to use it past 3 weeks. I prefer the Avent Overnight breast pads, by way of disposable. I also have some washable ones, that are alright, I mainly use them for the money saving aspect.
