3rd Trimester

GD Ladies, do you remember your results?

For the one-hour glucose test I got a 142. My doctor's cutoff was 140, so I went in for the three-hour the next day.

These are my results:
Fasting: 100. I failed that one.
One-Hour: 150. Passed.
Two-Hour: 148. Passed.
Three-Hour: 137. They said I failed. I go in to see the diabetic specialist tomorrow for more information, get my blood testing kit, etc...
However, ever since then I've been looking at every diabetic website I could find, and every single one says the three-hour should at least be below 140. Every single one!
I'm curious, what was your doctor's cut-off for the third-hour level? Was it 140, or did they make it 135 or 130? What were your levels for that last one?

Re: GD Ladies, do you remember your results?

  • I have no idea what my doctors office cut off is. But when I failed the one hour I was told it depends on which lab I tested at (Quest vs. LabCorp). Each lab has different cut offs. Anyways, I passed the three hour so I didn't bother to ask what my results were.

FWIW, you can always ask to redo the three hour test if it will make you feel better.

  • More and more research is showing a need for tighter control during pregnancy, so slowly some drs are adopting stricter cut offs for both the 1hr and 3hr GTTs. That info isn't reflected in the majority of on-line resources yet. It's very possible your dr uses a 130 or 135 cut off at the 3hr mark, in which case you failed. Also, some drs consider you GD if you fail even just the fasting. I honestly have no idea what my 3hr numbers were; my 1hr numbers were high enough to skip the 3hr with my 1st and I just didn't care to know with my second, as we already assumed I would fail based on my personal and family history.

  • I failed my 3-Hour with the below results...

    Fasting - 87 - Passed

    One-Hour - 238 - Fail

    Two-Hour - 197 - Fail

    Three-Hour - 33 - Passed

According to my doctor's office you would have passed the 3-hour test, but I have read many people say their offices are starting to use 130-135 as the three hour cut off.  I have been able to control mine with diet and exercise alone. Tracking your BGL is really not that bad once you get the hang of it.

  • My doctor does the three hour test, but if you fail fasting he treats you as having gd
  • Fasting was 100, all other numbers were good, I was told I have it.

In other words, looking at your resutls, you failed the test before you even started it.

  • My doctors have lower thresholds.  90 for fasting and 130 post meal.  My fasting was 2 points high.  My post meals didn't become an issue until a couple months later, but I was tested early because of family history.

  • I was told before I took the 3 hour that there were 2 ways to fail 1) fail 2 or more time points or 2) fail the fasting.

    One-Hour - 238 - Fail

@gusgus1312, after the third hour did they have to give you glucose with your numbers that low?

  • My guess is a typo and it was supposed to be 133. But its a moot point because if you fail the fasting, you fail.
  • They didn’t know my number was that low until a few hours later because they don’t test the results where you get your blood work done.  On my way home I had a pretty bad attack.  I was really lucky my DH was able to meet me home after the test.  He was able to get some food in me before I passed out.  When I meet with the dietitian she couldn’t believe I made it home OK.  I was a little surprised myself!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
