Did you use a belly binder?

I'm going to be having a c-section to deliver my girls and have read that it's absolutely necessary to buy a belly binder.  I'm looking at buying a Belly Bandit - but I'm unsure of how to measure with twins...on it's site it says if you're having twins to call their customer service to talk about it. I was a size 16-18 before getting pregnant...just not sure that it'll fit me...regardless, I will call.  Just wondering if this is the best brand to go with or if there are others I should be looking at?

Re: Did you use a belly binder?

  • Ask your doctor first. I have heard that my hospital will supply one since I am having a C section.

  • Yes! Definitely use one. It helped tremendously, I wore that thing night and day for weeks.

I would second the hospital comment. If they don't give you one, ask and they will. I ordered a belly bandit and was way less impressed versus the free one from the hospital! Take the one from the hospital and see if you can sweet talk the nurse into giving you an extra, one size smaller for once you start shrinking. :)
  • Perfect, thank you ladies - didn't think they'd give one there! I will ask my doc at the next appt! :)

  • I used one extensively with my first csection and thought it was awesome (the one from the hospital) but this time I was still so swollen and huge and itchy that I couldn't wear it and my recovery was still fine.

  • With DD I bought a Belly Bandit and they gave me one in the hospital. I hated the Belly Bandit because it was shorter and when I sat it sat right on my incision. The one from the hospital was wider so it fit much better. It wasn't as tight as the Belly Bandit but it worked fine. I just found mine from when I delivered DD when going through baby things. I'll probably ask for a new one but I'm also thinking about using an Ace bandage to get it as tight as I want.

I ended up selling my Belly Bandit to someone on The Bump.

  • I didn't use one. I was so swollen and gassy and in pain that I wanted nothing near my belly for a long time.

I'm about 3 months out and only within the last couple weeks could I tolerate anything remotely tight near my incision. Plus I have this weird numb spot above my incision. Idk, not for me.

  • I wore the one from the hospital for about a week or so, then switched to the Bandit because I had to keep making the hospital one tighter and I started to have a weird groove forming in my abdomen (the band would bend weird when I was seated).

FWIW, my OB told me to start wearing it less at the 3 week mark to get my abs used to working without support, so the Bandit may not be worth the cost to you. I am so glad I did it though.

  • I had one but didn't see much use for it.  To me it made more sense to try to use correct posture and hold it in myself.
  • My hospital gave me one and it was great. I did not wear one after my c section with my first and I should have. It made moving easier. I did order one from a company called wink but it was hard to correctly tell what size I was going to be.
  • I was too scared to wear one. They way it pushed my bloated, swollen flab down hard made it feel like it was going to bust my incision open.

And not that this caused it, or that its happened to anyone else that I know of, but the night after I wore it, I noticed my incision coming open. After that, I was too afraid to do it anymore.

  • The hospital gave me one as well, but if they don't - the belly bandit organic is the one that was recommended to me numerous times. Good luck with the csection!

  • I got the BB and wore once... My OB advised against and said to just use good posture.

  • My hospital gave me one (and I'm plus sized too, so no worries there).  And although I didn't wear it for an extended period of time (probably off and on for two weeks), It was invaluable while I needed it.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

I had a c-section with the twins. I requested one on my second day at the hospital and my nurse had one of the OBs write up an order for one. I had it later that day. It definitely helped me feel more put together and made it easier for me to stand upright and walk.
