S/O Sleep Training

For those of you who have started- when you let your LO cry, how hard do they cry?  There have been a few nights that I know DD is full & tired, but she keeps waking up so I attempt to let her cry herself back to sleep.  But after a few minutes of fussing, her little cries turn into hysterical cries & I give in.  She is 4 months & has STTN a few times, so I know she is capable of doing it.  I guess my question here is how long do you let them cry if it's more than just little wimpers?

Re: S/O Sleep Training

  • I would comfort if the crying goes beyond wimpers, but I'm not a big fan of CIO. We've had good luck with comforting without picking her up. Sometimes all I have to do is just go stand by her crib for a few minutes so she sees me, sometimes I just put my hand on her chest, sometimes I have to stand there and hold the binkey in. I try not to do things that involve movement unless she is really upset because I don't want to have to end up rocking her forever.

If she all the way wakes herself back up (like smiling/kicking/eyes wide open), then I get her up and out of her crib to play a bit until her eyelids get heavy again. Sometimes she just wants a little rest instead of being ready for full-on sleep.

    Good luck!
