What I like about the Bump

Seems like there's a lot of "Bump Love" out there so I thought this might be a fun thread - especially since so many of us have been here since our BFPs.

What do you love most about The Bump?

Me:

1. Getting feedback from actual moms. It's nice to read a lot of fact based information, but sometimes I really just want anecdotal evidence from women who have been there before.

2. I feel like I have a nice group of lovely online friends and I've even made an IRL friend!! Yay!! :-)

3. It's just a nice mental break to come on here and see what's happening.

  • I hear about a lot of things here first on TB. I like coming here to give me new ideas to research. I'm a natural philosopher. I'm always asking questions and seeking the answers. Then i need to bounce ideas off on a communal setting among non-judgemental peers. I find that here on TB too. I guess what I am saying is that TB helps me think. It's just a bonus that my BMB is full of great gals.

  • This board has helped me address issues that might not have been on my radar otherwise!  Specifically, DD's torticollis.  I'd never heard of it until some of you ladies brought it up.  DD's wasn't severe enough for the pediatrician to notice during her regular appointments, so if I hadn't known to look for it, we might not have caught it until much later, when it might not have been as easy to correct.

Also, everyone on this board is super nice.  I don't even bother with the other boards. ;-)

Lol Who, who?!? As a FTM, I am grateful to have found a community of women that not only have babies the same age as mine, but also a strong community of STMs+ who seem so well informed, knowledgeable, and have an amalgam of parenting philosophies I also identify with. I am home alone six nights a week, and after talking with seven year olds all day, cooing to a baby all evening, and then talking to no one all night, it's nice to feel 'connected' to people.

  • I like feeling connected to other new moms like me who are going through the same joys and struggles at the same time.  And the STMs have been so helpful and nice!  Pretty much everything that has already been said I agree with.

Also, this board has been a great source of support.  Moving to a new place, with my best friend two time zones away and with new babies of her own, and a husband that (understandably) can't relate to what I'm personally going through - that's tough.  You ladies really got me through the post-cheer camp fiasco and the mastitis.  I'm sure I must have been so obnoxious but I really needed that encouragement and feedback.  I'm pretty sure I would have been in hysterics every night without it.

  • My friends don't have babies around the same age so I am sure they get tired of hearing me talking about my LO, here I feel you all want to know because you are in the same boat wanting to talk about your LO also! Plus I have learned more from this board that anywhere else! When we have a 2nd I don't know if I will even bother to go to another board lol

  • The biggest thing for me has been how much I have learned from all the different woman who are parenting a child close in age to mine. I feel like I learn something new from you ladies everyday! I am constantly saying IRL "well I read this . . . " or "someone told me this . . . " when I'm referencing something I learned from you guys here on TB! I love the differing opinions bc it gives me insight outside of my own and causes me to think about my parenting choices in a different light. I look at it as great "advice" without that feeling of anyone shoving their insight down your throat. So glad I found this board!

  • Before E, I had zero experience with babies. I knew nothing. So it was and still is a bit scary navigating through all the rules and different opinions of parenting. I still feel like I'm winging it, but here there's always someone who has done something before me and willing to share their experiences, so I don't feel quite so alone.
If it wasn't for this board I'd probably have a non vaccinated, junk food eating, forward facing 8 month old. Not really, but you get my drift. :)

  • I will shamelessly admit that I am addicted to TB :) This board has helped me immensely in so many ways; knowing what is normal or not, what to expect for the future, different ways to manage things, etc. I also love the support and camaraderie that we have here. I like hearing what others are doing in regards to raising children, having a family, and taking care of a household. I like being able to vent here and knowing that others have gone through similar situations (or can at least be sympathetic to mine!). The knowledge I have gained from other moms is invaluable, IMO. I honestly think I would have been even more anxious and crazy as a new mom if it weren't for this site!
