Some peds say yes. Others say that if you are eating enough D then baby is fine. If baby gets 5 minutes if sunshine a day, you probably don't need more Vit D. I'm not using drops.
We give her a drop a day. Our pediatrician says that it's especially important in the winter because we live so far north and have a lot less sunlight.
I was told by the nurses because I had to supplement with a little bit of formula since she had low sugar that until I'm exclusively only feeding her breast milk that I can wait but as long as I'm only breast feeding I have the Vit D sol or something like that, I haven't started giving it to her yet though.
If you're having trouble with the quantity, try Carlson's. It's available at Whole Foods, and maybe on Amazon. The serving is literally 1 drop. You can put it right on your nipple or the bottle nipple, and baby will get it while sucking. It's so much easier than all the supplements that require a whole syringe.
It seems expensive, but it's a year's supply in one teeny bottle. And it really does last a year!

This. We started with the D Vi Sol, but it was expensive and I didn't like having to give it. We switched to the D drops and I would just put one drop on a nipple before our nighttime nursing session.

Both of my kids still get vitamine D drops per the pedi. Babies get vitamin K and vitamin D drops. for the first 3 months or so and then just vitamin D. Vitamin D is really important and it is hard for babies especially in the fall/winter to get enough sunshine to compensate. The drops don't hurt anything. We always give them on a baby spoon and let them lick the spoon. works pretty well.
Our pedi said to give one ml per day in his bottle. He doesn't seem to do anything different when its in there. We usually just put it in one of his afternoon bottles.
