When did your (full term) babies sit up unassisted?

edited September 2013 in Multiples
My girls will be 5 months old next week. They were born at 38 weeks but have always been tall and skinny for their age (they also have large heads). My pedi told us to start solids now, but assumed we'd spoon-feed purees. We're planning to do Baby Led Weaning and a big prerequisite for BLW is baby being able to sit up unassisted. My girls always want to sit up/be held upright/propped up, but they are nowhere near being able to sit up completely unassisted. Pedi said due to their sizes it might not happen until 7-8 months.

Just curious when other multiples accomplished this feat. Thanks!

  • My babies aren't here yet but I can tell you from my experience working with babies, most can sit up on their own at 6-7 months.

  • Our little girl is on the small end and our boy is average to slightly husky. They still only sit with light support. They'll do it on their own for a short bit but topple over. They are rolling tons, and getting into crawling positions, but not fully sitting up yet.

  • My babies sat up unassisted around 5.5 mos.  We also do BLW and started right at 6 mos after they were sitting.  Sitting is key to not choking.

  • Whoops! I didn't read the "(full term)" in the subject line and voted (mine were 35 weekers). So if you want to subtract one "7 months" vote, go for it. ;)

  • Lol, thanks. I think this post only served to show me what I already knew....that every baby, including multiples, is unique! Thanks, everyone.

Simon (my big man) was closer to the end of month 6 - James (my pixie of a boy) was around the end of month 5. They have totally different builds. About to turn 8mo, James is climbing and attempting to stand independently, and Simon is pulling up.

I think this will be us too. Right now (5 months on Wednesday) they topple over after only a few seconds if you prop them upright against pillows, etc. I think we have a long way to go. :)
