Yes. He refused to take it out and said that my depression, hair loss, weight gain around the middle weren't being caused by Mirena. @sallysunrise the side effects are listed on a med database at work BTW

He did however offer me the Essure or Tubal ligation which both are basically surgery OR I could wait until 3mon after my H gets a vasectomy THEN he would remove it

He did not offer to give me antidepressants or more work up for the symptoms he says are unrelated

WTF.

I was absolutely dumbfounded. I am going back to my old OB who delivered Caleb. I don't care if I have to pay out of pocket

That's crazy, who the f*** does he think he is telling you what you can and can't do with your own body? Especially since it's not medically dangerous to take it out.

Aaaaaaaaaaand these are the kinds of OBs that I hate. I do not by any means think that ALL OBs are terrible people, but damn if there aren't a lot of them who are! They get to "play God" so much more than in other areas of medicine, and boy do a lot of them take advantage of it. It's sickening.

I am SO sorry you had this experience today. Run for the hills! There ARE some fantastic OBs out there- go find you one!

@breannie I did tell him those side effects are listed on lexicomp (our hospitals drug database). He retorted with the arguement that the hormones should stay within the uterine muscle and have very little systemic effect. In the end, it's his license and I'm a healthcare consumer who will be taking their business elsewhere. There is copious amounts of anecdotal evidence (many gals here on J12 even!) that the Mirena has a lot of side effects. This is what I am thinking. It is your body and you are not asking him to do anything that is dangerous. I think you need to find another OB because it sounds like this guy does not respect you or care about your health.

Ok. I made an appointment with my old OB who doesn't deliver at my hospital. He delivered Caleb and the insurance was the only reason I left him when I had Hunter. I have an appointment next Thursday. I'm just so shocked that he wouldn't do it. I paid for it. It's my body. End of story. He's the main MD in the practice so I really can't complain to anyone.

Side effect issue aside, if you want the damn thing out, he should take it out! You shouldn't have to give him any reason at all; I want it out, take it out! Boooooooooo.
