Parenting after a Loss

Wdyt? Teething and sleeping related.

When your child's tooth cuts, how many days do you have sleep issues (if at all)?? DS cut a tooth Saturday and was really fussy at nights. We had to rock him completely asleep and then whenever he woke up In the middle of the night we did the same thing. Well now days later the wakes up are getting worse...DS is waking up after each sleep cycle. He did this as a younger infant and we had to sleep train.

How much of the wake ups (about very hour and a half) do you think are from teething at this point? Do you think he just picked up his old habits again?

DS is almost 9 months and it's his first tooth.

  • So far, we have been lucky.  When DS's sleep is disrupted from teething or anything else, he wakes up crying for about a minute and falls back asleep.  It sounds like old habits die hard.  Once the teeth breaks through, there isn't much pain.  Our doctor said unless you can see the white of the tooth about to break through there shouldn't be much pain and once the tooth breaks, the worst is over. So if you can't see any white through the gums and if the teeth that were coming in are through, this may just be habit at this point.  Sorry :(

  • Well, Harper is teething right now and her sleep has been disrupted since Saturday. I've let her cry a few nights and she has gone to bed after a few minutes of crying. I think they easily revert back to their old habits and that may be the case with your DS. It's so hard to let them cry though when you know they are in pain. Have you tried teething tablets or Tylenol before bed?

Yes we have been using both. He's really putting up a fight and letting him cry a bit hadn't been working. :(

  • Are you treating the teething pain? I would give ibuprofen before bed or upon the first wakeup if you are fairly certain LO is having discomfort from teething...that's what we do.

For us, we just end up cosleeping when LO's sleep is disrupted from teething - which has been happening a lot lately due to the evil molars.  But when the teeth aren't bothering her, she goes back to STTN in her crib without issue.  (I got to sleep in my own bed the past 2 nights, glorious).

Yes we have been treating it though I suspect it's over. Coalescing would be great but DS doesn't do well, he just stays up and plays with our faces lol. He sleeps in half hour chunks if he's with us...not really sure why...light sleeper?
