Going to the fair..

A group of friends is going to the fair tonight, because we get in free today with school IDs. I want to go because it will be a nice date with DH, and we'll be out with friends so he'll be able to go on the rides with them while I sit out.

But I'm so miserable all the time now! And the walking is going to kill me! I've been walking a lot more these past few days, helping out with events on campus (not currently enrolled in school but trying to stay active with my club because maintaining my social life seems to be helping with my depression). After 5 minutes I'm walking slower, holding onto my belly, my hips start hurting, my back aches. I hate it!

I'm in good health though. NST this morning was good, my blood sugars have been great even though I've fallen asleep without taking my insulin the past two nights. I had a massive headache yesterday but checked my BP and everything was good. So I have no real reason not to go other than just being uncomfortable.

Any tips for trying to enjoy myself? Since we're with a group, I hate to slow everyone down. We're driving separately instead of carpooling so we can leave early if we need to. I'm taking lots of water and snacks.

  • Is this like a state fair? Can you rent a scooter? I did that when I had my gallbladder out, full open chole. You feel like an idiot but saves you a ton of pain & exhaustion.

  • I hear you. My friends are all going to a fair around here on Friday night and I just can't do it. Being on my feet for longer then 15-20 mins is miserable. Everything just starts hurting (feet, back, pubic pain, etc). I'd rather not put myself through that just for a funnel cake and some other yummy treats that I shouldn't be eating...

  • If baby is still on the inside, I'm going to the fair in October on my due week.  I'm hoping the walking and the 8 fair corn dogs I'm going to eat jump start my labor.  :)

Los Angeles County fair, so it's pretty big, but not quite state fair big. I don't know about renting a scooter or anything. We're on a tight budget, so even if they're available, I don't think we can afford it. The only reason we're even going is because it's free and it's a good opportunity for us to get out and have a bit of fun before baby.

  • I would go just for the corn dogs. Make sure you map out the restrooms. :)

  • With GD, fair food is going to be limited. I just want to pet the goats. Which we probably won't do because everyone is going to want to do the rides and games more than see the farm area.

I'm grumpy about going now, actually. DH has never been to this fair, since he's a transplant from the east coast. He tries to be a snazzy dresser when we go out and now he wants to wear a shirt, tie, and vest. And I want to be a slob. He wants me to dress up with him, and I'd rather he dresses down to jeans and a t-shirt. It's the county fair, FFS, and I'm 8 months pregnant.

Actually, in the hour and a half since I got home, he's managed to compare me to Christopher Lloyd's character in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, commented on the fact that my face is breaking out, and insulted my wardrobe, because apparently I don't own anything nice for "going out". I know he didn't mean for me to take any of it how I am, but I'm hormonal. So now I really don't feel like going, at all. Boo.
  • i thought your husband was in a wheelchair? just ride on his lap!

Not in a wheelchair. Just not allowed to lift, twist, or bend. He's nearing the end of his recovery period, so hopefully some of his restrictions will be lifted soon. He's fine with walking, for the most part, as long as he doesn't overdo it.

so a piggyback isn't an option either i guess.

  • Our fair is this month. I don't have the energy for that, its HUGE. But I am sending money with my sister (she's going friday with her boyfriend) for fair food. I would have given her more to pick me up all the things, but I really really just want scones. God bless the Puyallup Fair! (Now known as the state fair.)

  • We went last weekend.  All I remember is the BBQ and funnel cake, but I know I was a trooper with the walking, my FIL said so.  I said something like nom nom nom nom.
