Bish won't shut up!!!

So I was at my mommy group and this new girl joins. So we do the usual what's your name, LO's name etc. So she goes on this rant about how she wanted to pick a really unique name and she was sooo against naming a girl Charlotte because apparently everyone has that name. So my other mommies look at me awkwardly but I try to look unfazed and politely tell her my baby's name is Charlotte. So instead of being polite and saying oh that's a pretty name she keeps going about how she's a teacher and ALL the girls are named Charlotte right now and didn't I realize how bad it is to name your daughter after a character from a tv show. I explained that there was a personal reason for naming her Charlotte and that even if it was popular it was still a name I really loved.

Nope she keeps going, about what a bad choice Charlotte is. So someone politely changes the conversation and I thought it was over. Nope later in the discussion we're talking about bullying and some how my daughters name comes up. Apparently all the mean girls are named Charlotte...wtf?

Also the kicker her daughters name....Quinn as in one of the main characters on Glee.....BISH

Re: Bish won't shut up!!!

  • What a b*tch. First off I LOOOOOVE Charlotte. It's top two on our girls list if we ever move (we live there and that's a little much to have Charlotte from Charlotte). I hope you wrote down where she's a teacher and don't send your LO there. What kind of teacher says something like that to a parent? Quinn is definitely from Glee and its originally a boys name. Either short for Quincy or if he was the 5th of something. It's cute but not something she deserves a medal in parenting for. Some people just suck at life.

  • I can't be chewed with people like her. Charlotte is a beautiful name and I'm not just saying that.

She doesn't have to like the name but she should show some decorum and keep her mouth shut.

  • LOVE the name Charlotte! She's an idiot. And rude.
  • Charlotte is a pretty name. I wanted it for my daughter after my great grandmother, but it's my cousin's name and 3 Charlottes in one family is much. She sounds very rude and I'm thinking you'll have more stories to tell about her if she keeps going to your group.

  • Wow, how annoying and rude! I love the name Charlotte, but DH vetoed it because he has an ex-boss with that name. I'm still trying to put it back on the list for a future DD.

How rude! Why does it matter to her, a total stranger, what YOU named YOUR daughter?!

For what it's worth, if we have another girl, we are naming her Charlotte :)
  • What a cray cray beotch. As a teacher, she should know better than to talk badly about a child's name because I'm sure she sees some very interesting ones.
Our M was going to be Charlotte. We had decided on that for a while when I was pregnant. But then DH backed out because it was his grandma's name and he didnt want to "steal" it from any of his currently childless cousins who may want to use it in the future. Pssssh.
It's a beautiful name for your beautiful daughter!

  • Also I should mention that since my first name is very unique...I'm kinda glad my daughter will have a popular name. Unique can suck.

Oh and DH just reminded me...Dr. Quinn medecine woman....

  • I think you already saw how I feel about the name and my stupid cat. I even thought about casually starting to call the cat Charline and naming the baby Charlotte, hoping no one would notice...but DH wouldn't go for it.

  • Why do people say things like that? Charlotte is a gorgeous name! That is why people like it!

One of DH's cousins and his wife named their little girl Quinn, she is 9 months old so take that annoying teacher lady! Not so original now is it? Bish please.
  • She is a snatch and I'm surprised you didn't throat punch her. I love the name Charlotte and don't know anyone named that.

  • What a jerk! I don't understand why parents are so into giving their kids "unique" names. If anyone ever saw the documentary "Freakonomics" they covered this "unique" name craze and found out that people with these names are 30% less likely to get a call back for good paying jobs. They said that employers see these names as being less educated there for less qualified for jobs. Also in searching for these names they found hundreds of kids with the name unique spelled several different ways too, so these names are not as unique as they think they are. If you want to name you kid something unique hey more power to you but there's nothing wrong traditional names either.

Aww, snatch is such an underused word! Love you for using it @rebaann! :\">

  • I have to say I love Charlotte but I guess I am partial since it is dd1 name. I don't know any of any other Charlottes and I work in 2 different schools and have for over 10 years and have never had any students in those schools named Charlotte. I just checked it is ranked 19 on the top 100 girls names as of May 2013 so not that popular.

  • my niece is a Charlotte. It's popular but that can be a good thing. I'm pretty sure knowing other Charlotte's isn't going to give anyone a complex. I know several other Carolines and I still miraculously manage to feel like my own person. I don't get people's obsession with having a unique name for their kid. Charlotte is a beautiful name.
  • What a bitch! You should have responded to her "all mean girls are named Charlotte" comment with, "Yes, but I plan on teaching her good manners so she doesn't act like an ignorant ass in group settings."

BTW, I love the name Charlotte. If one of my boys had been a girl, she would have been named Charlotte.

  • My neice is Charlotte. :) It's popular & pretty...so what.

If it makes you feel better I had a coworker insult my name to my face telling me that it was pretty generic...we got on a name tangent and argument over someone naming their LO Sophia. I loved it and she said it was for an old lady. Oh well. Some people need to shut up.

  • I've been a teacher for 11 years, and have only had one student with the name and she was a sweetheart...which is what I'm sure your little Charlotte will be. Idiots like that give the whole teaching profession a bad rap.

Ya, To be honest we mostly call her Charlie or chunky chuck. But I find it much easier to call her Charlotte to strangers because she looks like a boy and they get confused when I call her Charlie.

Quinn was also on Daria, as long as we're adding TV references. Charlotte is such a pretty name. My daughter is a Samantha. Anyone have a Carrie or Miranda? We can send our SATC babies over to kick her butt.

Love Daria! That's what I thought go too! Charlotte is a gorgeous name. I'm all for naming your kids what you love, even if it's popular. My LO is Lucy, which I didn't think was terribly common or anything - but there are TWO Lucy's at her DC! A 2 year old and a 7 week old! So....goes to show you, you never know what will be popular.

  • I love the name Charlotte! My grandma is named Charlotte :)
Wow! I have no brain to mouth filter and even I wouldn't do something like that!
And just because I'm curious... What TV show had a main character named Charlotte?
