Bck pain help

This may have been covered in the past, and if so I apologize.  I just need some help/suggestions.

I have horrible middle-back pain.  At times it feels like it's hard to breathe (although I can very well) and the pain is almost a burning sensation.  I do see my chiropractor regularly so I do know that I don't have anything out of place.  The only relief I have found is when I can lay on the floor at home on my side with a pillow under my head.  Laying on my bed doesn't make as big of a difference.  I can assume that the pain is normal as I have heard a lot of other MoM's mention it.

So, how do you combat it?  Obviously I can't lay on the floor when I'm at work (believe me, I'm tempted) and I don't want to rely on medications (Tylenol, muscle relaxers, etc.), so what helps?  Ice....heat....do those belly band thingers help?  I've considered getting one but wanted feedback on whether they are actually worth the purchase.  I have had back issues prior to pregnancy and know my chiropractors very well because of it, but everything that has helped me in the past for muscle "spasms" I can't use now that I'm pregnant. (Tens unit, ultrasound therapy at the chiro, Bio-Freeze)  I will not do or take anything that could cause harm to my babies and will suffer through the pain if there is no relief available, but I'm so hoping that some of you MoM's have some ideas.  I have tried different chairs (at home and at work), different sitting postures, you name it.  Help!!!

Re: Bck pain help

  • I haven't had any back pain, knock on wood, other than a day or two of some between my shoulder blades. I had a prenatal massage and it was amazing and I haven't had the pain since. I've just tried to stay active with walking up until about 28 weeks and now I just swim when I'm up to it. I used to have really bad sciatic nerve pain before I got pregnant. I went to the chiro a few times but I think being physically active has saved me a lot of pain during this pregnancy.

  • I saw a chiropractor during my pregnancy for this same reason. It didn't eliminate the pain, but it helped manage it a lot. My chiro recommended I wear a belly support band. Your middle back is most likely hurting from the weight of the babies concentrated in your belly, so a support band will help ease the stress on your back. I changed positions constantly while at work. That pain is awful, I'm sorry :(

  • Chiropractor.  I asked my MFM if I could go and they actually said they recommend it.  Absolutely saved me from going insane.  I was already uncomfortable enough that if the pain had continued at the strength it was at before I saw him, I would have lost it.  He helped tremendously.  I'm with PP, it didn't completely alleviate the pain, but it got it under control.

  • Well, I do see my chiropractor quite regularly.  That's a good suggestion though.  The problem is, even after seeing them the pain never diminishes.  I could understand if it still hurt that day, you know, give it time to correct itself, but it never lessens.  I think Shaunah816 is right, maybe the strain on my back is from the boys.  I mean, if the chiropractor hasn't helped thus far...The good thing with my chiropractor is one of them is a woman who has had babies so she knows first hand the different pains that will be associated with pregnancy, more than a man would.  But, since the 2 chiropractors in that office are husband/wife I do feel strongly that the man has a good idea having dealt with it at home with his own wife.

Anyway, I think I'll look into one of those bands. There are 2 that I've seen online.  Do you suggest the one that seems to be just one band below your belly or the one that has the band above AND below your belly?  I'm sorry, some of these questions may seem dumb and common sense to some of you, but I'm a first time pregnant mom (I do have a 15 yr old stepson that I call my son, so if you've seen reference to him in other posts, that's why) with twins, so I'm sure there's extra things going on that mom's who've had babies before have an idea about.  My sister had twins, but that was 20 years ago so her advice is a bit outdated. (I don't know if they had belly bands or some of the other technology we have today back then.)
