And guess what her kid is getting for Christmas? Diabetes!!
There's a girl I went to HS with and her son is about 3 weeks younger than PJ. She posted a picture on FB about 2 months ago of him eating a french fry, and it took every ounce of willpower not to call her out on it. Who seriously gives their 6 month old french fries?!
The worst part was the comments from people saying the doctor was stupid and it was crazy to put a 3 year old on a 'diet'. This kid is way overweight, as is his brother, father, grandparents, ect. Finally a family member said something along the lines of there being heart disease on both sides of the family and how healthy eating habits are learned from a young age so its hard to undo the damage later on. She was polite about it but the mother still got super pissed and defensive.
I just don't understand. Who hasn't heard about all of the health risks associated with obesity? Who wouldn't want to help their kids avoid those kibd of problems.
Your friend is an idiot. In her tiny head, she actually thinks she is sticking it to the doc by giving her kid mickey Ds for lunch. Because the doc is a meanie! Some people.
I saw a perfect example of this at a restaurant. Mom and dad were overweight; 5'10" probably 250-300. DD1 was probably 8-10 and was husky, probably 100 when she should have been more like 80. DD2 was 4-5 and looked a healthy proportion; probably 40 pounds. You could see from the kids it wasn't genetics causing the issue, it was eating habits. Those kids don't have a chance.
If she thinks she will piss off your doctor or "show them" by giving her kids McDonalds then she is obviously too dumb to function. Obviously there is no test to determine who should procreate but if there was, she would fail. It just sucks for the kid they were born to a mom who is too stupid to understand that giving French fries to a fat kid is just setting him up for a hard life.
"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." ~ Lao Tzu
Totally judgement worthy. How could she not care about her child being healthy?! Obviously if the child is overweight he isn't getting healthy food and therefore isn't getting all the vitamins and nutrients he needs.
I have a friend whose little boy is 4 and wearing size 8 jeans. I cleaned out my 8 year old SS's closet and handed her down his jeans that he is growing out of. SS weighs 60 pounds at 8 and her son is 72 pounds at 4!!!!!!
She feels that he is just big boned and of course his doctor is a meanie saying he needs to drop pounds fast. This poor little boy is constantly eating sweets and sucking down Coke's. I want to smack her!!!
I am overweight myself and trying to eat healthier. I couldn't imagine giving my kid a poor start at health. Sad.
Kind of unrelated but DH and I are overweight. So are SIL and my bro. Our kids are close in age (DS is 10 months). She is ALWAYS bugging me about food. Have you given him puffs yet? What's your problem with puffs? What about pizza? Why haven't you given him juice yet? I think she's trying to validate her food decisions?
Jesus, he's 10 months old. He doesn't even KNOW pizza exists. Why start that crap when he's not even old enough to ask for it? He can't even say Mama yet! My mom sent us to bed with a sippy cup full of Coke or Sprite and a bowl of snack food. I'm trying to fix these things so my son is better off than I am now. I guess not everyone thinks that way but I don't get it.
Now I'm off to the vending machine for another diet coke :-/
What's so frustrating is that with how tech-savvy our society has become, it's almost impossible to not stumble across some study about how important childhood nutrition is. When I was pregnant with PJ I came across all sorts of various studies showing that children start developing eating habits IN THE FREAKING UTERUS. Seriously!! Towards the end of pregnancy when the baby starts actually swallowing amniotic fluid, the baby can taste (dulled taste I'm sure) what you have eaten. Your breastmilk is slightly flavored with what you eat. Before children are even born we are shaping their future eating habits. But please, go ahead and give your impressionable infants/toddlers crap food so that they start demanding pizza before they're potty-trained. Absolutely ridiculous.

PJ is 9 months and I won't let her have juice either. And ya know what? She doesn't miss it. As for puffs, I found some super awesome ones that are organic and they come in fun flavors: Apple & spinach, Strawberry & Beet, etc. PJ loves them and they are incredibly low in sugar.
When I was a kid my parents let me eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. We seriously had pizza like 5 nights a week for dinner. Now as an adult I am having an incredibly hard time forcing myself to not eat that way. I can't imagine setting my kids up for that kind of failure as well!
I don't hate on puffs or anything, I just don't have them. No reason really. DS has bottles throughout the day and meals so he's eating small amounts frequently through the day and doesn't really need snacks at this point. But for some reason it really bothers SIL that we don't have puffs.
My daughter is 7.5 months old and I just started giving her puffs. The only reason is because the little boy at daycare (he's a month older) eats them everyday and I just found out that they have been sharing his. I buy the organic ones and her fave is sweet potato and spinach.
As for the juice I haven't given her any yet. Don't really see where she needs it and our pedi doesn't feel it is necessary.
I try to eat healthier to set a good example for her since I have struggled with my weight my whole life. I don't want her to have the same issues.
I went to drop off a snack for DD at school (pretzel thins). Another kid in her group was eating Cool Ranch Doritos - that they got from the vending machine outside the gym.
"Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self esteem, first make sure you are not, in fact, just surrounded by assholes.
DD is 9mo and I've given her pizza. Pizza in and of itself isn't bad, it all depends on how you make it/where you get it.
Good point. I was thinking of the delicious trashy deep dish from Little Caesars that I love so much but if we made our own pizza from the grocery store pizza station or maybe a thin crust non greasy type place it would be a better option.
I really need to work on my own diet. Its just so EASY for him! He doesn't know the deliciousness that's out in the world. His favorite thing right now is plain grilled chicken. Because he doesn't know how amazing Popeyes is! Its so haaaarrrrd!
