Hemorrhoids - help!

I successfully survived my pregnancy without hemorrhoids but now that the baby is out they are here with a vengeance! Stupid question on how to use tucks pads - I seem to remember when we were on third tri there were all sorts of tips about freezing the pads and putting in panty liners (or something?) but reading the directions on the box it almost looks like they should be used as wipes. How do you use these most effectively?

Thanks!

Re: Hemorrhoids - help!

  • After delivery, my doc said I had some of the worst hemorrhoids she'd ever seen. I use the tucks pads too. I set a couple of them in my pad flat, for my stitches. Then I fold one in half and just tuck it into my butt so it stays against them.

  • Ouch! Not what I would want to hear from my doc - even if it were true. Hope you are feeling better now. How long did it take you to get rid of them?
  • I hate to say it, but 10 days PP, they're still here and hurting.

  • Eeee... Best of luck.
  • I used a spray, CVS brand and I found that to be quick and mess free!
  • I'm still expecting, but had them a few weeks ago. I did use the tucks in between and leaving them there. I also wiped with charmin wet wipes after #2 and that was so much better than TP. I used a prescription cortisone (2.5%) 3-4 times a day and alrernated with tucks left between after other bathroom breaks. My OB said to expect that they will come back worse during labor for me :( she said they will send me home with dermoplast spray which will numb them-maybe call and see if your OB suggests it. They suck and I hope you can get rid of them quickly!

That is exactly what I'm going to do!! I too had no problems until I pushed for 2 solid hours with delivery. Now the friction from just walking or riding in the car keeps me reeling with pain!

  • I got the prescription cortisone cream and am using the tucks keeping them in but will start using charmin wipes as well. @ocnfish - I am still feeling them using this regime but not nearly to the severity that I was feeling yesterday.
  • I tried the tucks pads to no success and ended up with a prescription for Proctofoam.
A couple applications and all gone!

Good luck with this as I know it is not a pleasant thing.
  • As gross as it sounds, I wholeheartedly endorse the Preparation H suppositories. The cream alone doesn't relieve my hemorrhoid pain, but the cream plus the suppository plus the wipes is a winning combination. And take your stool softeners religiously.

i'm using humphrey's organic witch hazel and cotton square pads. the first several days i soaked the pads with witch hazel and lined my pads with 2-3 of them. i'm now on day 6 PP and just soak one cotton pad and gently clean/dab with it. i'm trying to keep the area a bit drier. so far, when i am good about applying it, the hemorrhoid is contained. but when i am not on top of it, it comes back super huge. trying to make this one go away permanently, as it's the same one that has been haunting me since 3rd trimester =P
  • Preparation H (the gel) is AWESOME to put on them. I have been doing it every day and in the beginning I used the Tucks pads on my pad, but then I didn't feel like they were doing much and they dry up super fast.
