December 2011 Moms

HI, I'm T. I have a problem.

I feel like I should go to AA or something. Since we've been building this house, I feel like I need to buy brand new everything! It is seriously going to put me into debt. We bought a new couch and recliner because our old ones are shot. We bought a new TV stand, just because. I want to buy things to replace the hand me downs we got when we got married, but really, they all work fine. I'm just being a snob. I need to stop! I bought a lazer hair removal thing last night because I saw an awesome commercial on TV for it and DH wanted it - he's kinda hairy :) and I hate shaving. Just tell me to turn off the TV and stay off the computer. It's such a good thing I'm going to be gone for the rest of this week and weekend. I need to get away from the temptations!

  • No advice, i just wanted to let you know that I understand why you want new furniture. When we were house hunting and were looking at a newly built home, I remember thinking I would not want to bring all our old, hand me down, mismatched furniture into such a perfectly new house, it just wouldn't fit in! Luckily we ended up with a fixer upper and our junk looks just fine.

  • Lol I'm glad I'm not alone! It's a Tria laser 4x. It doesn't help the situation that DH rarely says no to me. I'm usually the saver, but when I get into a spending mood, he just joins right in! It needs to stop. But oh, Carters has a sale and they sell bedding now!! DS totally needs new sheets and I might as well buy the matching changing cover too right?? :)
  • Don't worry, I'll let you know if it really works!
  • LOL! I was the same way when we bought our house. Maybe if you can tell yourself to just wait for Black Friday Sales/Cyber Monday? That way you can think your ideas through and make a thorough list of what you want to buy where and when. :-)
Oh, and if you shop through ebates, you actually make money! ;-)

  • LOL, same problem here. I'm trying to be good though. I did buy new curtains because I had to, some things to hang on the wall, and our guest room will have new furniture and bedding. My old furniture from my room at my parent's house is being converted to be used in the playroom and they are giving us an almost new set of tables to use for the living room and entryway. But DH bought a projector, screen, and surround sound for the media room and spent a couple thousand $$$. We are moving to a bigger house, so we feel the need to fill it right away for some reason.

We are going to buy bar stools for the kitchen this weekend and as soon as we move in, a treadmill and kettle bells so I can work out at home.

When are you moving? We are closing and moving in next Friday :) I am SUPER excited! We've been waiting since May!
  • YAY next Friday is coming so quickly! I'm so excited for you. We just talked to the builder last night and he said mid october-ish. I think that sounds about right by what they have left.

There are 2 ellipticals on an auction this weekend that we are going to bid on. Max $500 each

We had a bigger house that I "needed" to fill too. Now we're going into a smaller house and I'm not sure where we're going to put everything. I guess we'll figure it out in a month!

  • If DS doesn't start STTN then MH wil going to have to take away the credit cards. Darn Paypal and amazon make it too easy because I don't have to enter the number. 2am purchases are never a good idea. I accidentally bought DD 2 Halloween dresses because I forgot I bought the other one. OOPs.

P.S. my house is still empty over a yr later. I need to put my energy into decorating vs kids clothing!

  • I have been really bad lately too, while we were house hunting I was dreaming of all the stuff and furniture I would be able to put in the new house. Then we gave up looking for a house and decided to stay put for while, but I have still been shopping like crazy to make our small space more organized, and I think I'm getting out of control.

TTC#1 May 2009- July 2010 on our own with no luck

  • So excited for you all moving into your new homes soon!!!

I have been on a baby buying spree lately...namely a new stroller, nursery décor, sheets, towels, and some clothes...opps and a gently used ergo.

I still have the furniture on my list too as well as things/décor for DD's big girl room. I am trying to spread out the purchases so DH does not kill me, lol.

  • If it's any consolation, we kept our "old house" because we had too much equity to sell it (market tanked in the area primarily from the HOA making it impossible for people to do the means necessary to have kept their homes such as taking on renters so the foreclosures took the value and more than halved it)..  SO, that means we pretty much have double of most things...

With our "new" house, I entirely get where you're at - I've just had to remind myself to ask the "Is this a NEED or is this a WANT", and balance things out to pace the spending a bit.  It's all about balance, moderation, and opportunity (when you realize that the furniture store has the same "sale" on the item you're wanting 50 weeks out of the year for the same price, it changes the shopping dynamic a bit..)..
