LO staying overnight at Grandma's

Hi Ladies,

My awesome parents got a free hotel room for DH and I in AC to get away for the night and said they would take DD.  My initial reaction was "SWEET"  but then I remembered that DD (18 months) is really going through a "I only want my mommy" phase right now.

She has stayed overnight with my parents 3 times before (she was 6 months the first time) and she's always done great.  Also,  my  mom takes care of her fulltime while I'm at work.  She's always very happy and comfortable with my parents.  When I'm at work she's fine.  Never cries.  Lately at night though we've been having trouble with her screaming bloody murder for me.  She wants nothing to do with DH.  This just started happening within the last week.  DH says maybe it's because I just went back to work (I'm a teacher so I was off for the summer).  I don't know.  Anyway, DH and I would really love to get away but we're not sure if we should leave DD.  I just don't want her to think I've abandoned her or something.  Am I being silly?

  • Under your circumstances, I see no reason to not leave her with your parents for one night.

  • I felt the same way last year when DS1 was going through a phase like that (and, we were going to AC for an overnight too!).  We did go, he was fine, and forgot that we were gone after we were home for a half hour.  Go and enjoy :)

This.  Honestly, she won't even know you are gone once you get out the door.

  • I totally agree with everyone. She will be fine.  Even if she does cry it will only be for a few minutes.  She is going to be in safe hand so go and enjoy yourself
