DD won't walk in shoes

DD (15 months) took her first steps a few weeks ago. I would say now, when we are at home, she crawls about half the time and walks about half the time. If she really wants to get somewhere she crawls, but she just walks around the living room for fun ALOT. She still falls quite a bit but gets right back up. I have hardly ever put shoes on her. She mostly goes barefoot even when we are out.

I got her some stride rite SRT's for early walkers that are like a tennis shoe style. I put them on her yesterday and at first she wouldn't even stand in them. Eventually, she would cruise in them and then after getting her to use her walker and walking some holding her hands, she took a few steps on her own, but wasn't walking nearly as much as normal.

Will it just take her a little time to get used to them? Any other suggestions?

  • The sole is somewhat flexible but the bottom is rubber (or rubberesque)
  • Loading the player...
  • The Robeez Mini Shoez with the rubber sole are a nice intermediate option - DS wore the hell out of a pair of Robeez fisherman sandals the summer he learned to walk.  They are a little tougher than the thin leather Robeez but much thinner and more flexible than the SRTs.

  • I would only do shoes outside and only if it is cold where you are. Give her a few weeks to figure out walking barefoot.
