Please talk to me about wearing rain boots to work!

I finally found a pair of rain boots that are not enormous on my short small footed self ( hunter kids...)and it rains a decent amt where I live, so I have been wanting something to wear into work bc I park in a garage and walk a couple blocks to the building...but the pant conundrum is perplexing me. I get that the look best w a dress or skirt or skinny pants or jeans( and we have already had the skinny pant talk :) ) but what about if you are wearing some other style of pant and want to bring flats or some other pair of non rain friendly shoe in your bag??? Does anyone do this? I feel like if I am only going to be able to wear these things on weekends or with a skirt (which I wear only periodically) they might be a waste...thoughts? Ps yes I posted asking aout rain boots earlier this week below but hoping more ppl will answer my plea here :) hehe.

  • And if my pants are dressier pants that aren't skinny legs I either neatly roll and tuck into the boot or wear the pants over the boots.  Its do-able.

There are a lot of cute rain boots out there. If you are just wearing them I don't see the issue.

Also, If it makes you feel better, I hurt my foot about a month ago and I have been stuck wearing horrendous Merrills at work. every single day. They are sort of okay, but I work in a very formal business attire setting so I feel very self conscious about it. I wore a really cute skirt suit today with my lame-o flats and I went from looking like a sophisticated business woman to a missionary in 1.2 seconds as soon as I put the shoes on. I can't even wear cute flats because I have to fit my grandma insole into it and I haven't found any that it works with yet. All my cute heels are collecting dust in the closet.

Feet are really important. So is protecting nice shoes. Wear the rain boots!!

  • Lol thanks all! Fwiw I used to wear sneakers to work every day and change when I got there when I was commuting via train, subway, and a number of blocks walk in NYC though it was to save my lower back more than my shoes...so I am used to looking dumb but for whatever reason this rain boot thing perplexes me haha! I guess bc some pants won't go over them or really tuck in right and I wasn't sure if I was missing s secret trick :)
  • I leave black flats at work so I don't have to lug them back and forth. They got with mot of my clothes.

  • I think (based on your clothing posts) you are one stylish mommy!

  • If you can't tuck in the boots and they are too long for just going over the boot.  You could always do a small roll at the cuff and pin until you get to work and then unpin and put on your shoes.

For pants that wont go over them, but can't tuck in them, I don't know, I am not stylish  enough to own such pants.

So here's how moronic I am...it isn't htat the pants 'can't tuck in' b/c I am sure I could stuff 99% of pants down the boot leg, it just looks like  a clown or something????? HA! Though I have to say, some are really hard to get down in there b/c once you get near the calf my hand/wrist doesnt fit to keep stuffing snugly...

And LOLing at hte stylish mommy thing... I have never been a stylish person but now that I am creeping up on 40 and feeling like i have the most 'mom-ish' wardrobe around, I decided to try the Nordstrom stylist (which I have posted about on here before :) ) and this is where my new anxiety is coming from- I was convinced to buy some new more stylish items but then I don't actually know how to wear them!
  • I wear rain boots to work in the bad weather. I'm sure I look ridiculous but I don't care. I'm not ruining good shoes or getting my feet soaked just so I'll look cute walking from the parking lot to my office.

If you're just walking to the office and changing when you get there, just jam your pants in there for the walk. In the rain, it doesn't have to look great as long as you switch to your "real" shoes in the office. I think people would recognize them as obviously functional and not really part of your outfit. I admit, I way prefer rain boots with a slim pant or skirt but you do what you have to do!

I don't actually ever, ever even drive in anything other than a designated pair of driving shoes, which I walk to my building in (I also have a block and a half walk) and I keep about 40 pairs of shoes in a box in my office that I pick from. It started out with me bringing a new pair each day then I realized it was just easier to keep them here. Nothing ruins shoes faster than driving in them, especially if you have a long commute.

    What she said.

How many are in the home closet?
How big is your office to have a box laying around inconspicuously w/ 80 shoes in it? LOLLLLL.
Last question, how does driving ruin your shoes? I guess I could see the sole of hte right one wearing down but I've never really noticed that, you're just pushing, not rubbing it on the pedal...
    .
I need all sorts of clarity here.
(ETA maybe I could see the heel getting worn from being on the floor of the car...but still have never noticed this...)

LOL. I know. I don't even want to talk about how many pairs are at home. I have a problem. My office is gigantic (by circumstance, not by status!) and I could easily fit even more if I needed to. It comes in handy during boot season.

Driving ruins the back of your shoes, just above the back of the heel as you press on the accelerator and slide back and forth to the brake, wearing that area down. Not the bottom of the heel or the sole itself. Softer shoes, say if the backs are cork or soft leather, wear very quickly as do wedge heels because there's more contact area to rub. Also, if you bump your foot between the accelerator and the brake, you can scuff up softer shoes around the inside left of the right shoe. If you don't drive much, this is probably a lot less of a problem but extended driving kills a lot of different kinds of shoes.

  • I live in Minnesota and almost every morning in the winter I wear boots and pack my shoes in my work bag.  My first stop is dropping DD off at daycare, which is always a sloppy, slushy mess.  Then I have to walk through the parking garage and into the building.  By the time I got to my desk, my shoes and pant legs would be soaking wet and dirty if I didn't wear boots.  My pants tend to be a little wider leg anyway, so I roll them up and put my boots over them.  Luckily most people here in Minnesota sport this look between November and March, so it's no big deal.
