I was going to say pour Hydrogen peroxide on the pup then put baking soda or vise versa. It really helped with my parents dog!

  • Our cocker spaniel got sprayed right in the nose/mouth about 2 years ago. I swear, you could still smell it 3 months later. We washed him right away with a peroxide/baking soda paste and rinse him with mouthwash. Weird, I know, but it was the only thing that worked. None of the fancy (read: expensive) sprays worked, and we didn't use the tomato juice. That's the worst!

This has happened to one of my dogs twice. The first time I took her to the vet and whatever they used worked perfectly! The second time they told me they no longer take care of skunk sprays. We washed my poor baby with everything. Dawn, tomato juice, regular dog shampoo, baby shampoo, baking soda, peroxide.......Everything!! And nothing really helped. It took weeks for the smell to go away!
  • Ack! That's one of my worst fears! Hoping you are able to get rid of the smell quickly.
  • We just washed her with her regular shampoo, as it was basically just in her face but I think I'm gonna try the peroxide and baking soda mix. The house reeks...

Also my SFIL said we need to get her checked for rabies now cuz we think she might have bit the skunk...any truth to that @petdocd or @huntjul ?

Rabies is transmitted by saliva. Did you check your dog thoroughly for bite marks? If your dog was attacked by the skunk I would be concerned , but biting a skunk will not cause rabies. I am assuming your pup is up to date on vaccines? Just to be safe I would recommend a rabies booster. Good luck with the smell. Poor pup!
Thank you! We checked her out and saw nothing and she is acting normal, DH was just guessing she might have bit it. We will definitely be checking out the vet tomorrow! Thanks!!

  • my dog killed a skunk who ended up having rabies, and he has to get a rabies booster. my husband then needed shots because he touched a drooling dog who bit a rabid skunk, but that's a wholeee other story lol

anyway we used dawn soap and hydrogen peroxide , found it online.  regular shampoo will NOT cut that smell
