Infertility

Hostile Cervical Mucus and IUI

So me and my husband have been trying to get pregnant for 14 Cycles and still no luck .It's definitely been a emotional, rough ride so finally we decided to see a fertility specialist. My husbands sperm count is great, my tubes are open, I ovulate regularly on CD15 but my cervical mucus is killing his sperm. The doctor suggest that we were good candidates for IUI. But with the success rate being so low, I guess I'm skeptical and worried how many times I will have to go thru IUI before it works, if it even will. I'm 26 years old and I know that I have time on my side but infertility has taken over my life, drug me down and has made an emotional mess out of me.

Just wondering if anyone out there can give me some guidance, some hope, or a success story. Thanks in advance!

Re: Hostile Cervical Mucus and IUI

  • Thank you so much for your reply! A part of me is jumping up and down screaming try it but I guess I'm just worried about setting myself up for another let down... But Ill definitely look into success rates for my age, it surely makes sense that my age probably has a higher percent of pregnancy.

I have already checked with my insurance and they do not cover it, and its $250 each time, which isn't bad if I only have to do it a time or two to get preggers. I may try one more time naturally this cycle, if that fails just bite the bullet and do it!

Wishing you lots of baby dust!! Good luck on your journey and Thanks again!

  • I have a similar issue, I had several post coital tests and they all came back showing that my husband's sperm couldn't move through my CM.  My RE recommended trying 3 IUIs before moving on to IVF.  We did 3 IUIs with him (and one with my OB before seeing my RE, so a total of 4 IUIs) before moving on to IVF.

We paid around $1000 for each IUI cycle (We did clomid + trigger + IUI), which is nothing compared to the $10,000+ price tag for an IVF cycle.

    PAIF/SAIF Welcome!

  • I know that has to be so disheartening. Insurance should pay more on infertility! Period.

I've tried to stay positive throughout TTC but its so hard.

    Wishing you baby dust!!
