So letting DD practice with her spoon has now translated into her pretty much refusing to be spoon fed at all, despite the fact that she lacks the dexterity to feed herself. Or rather, lacks the dexterity to feed herself without half the cup of yogurt ending up on the floor. She feeds herself most everything else and has for months, but DH and I have been hanging on to feeding her yogurt and pureed peaches and pears to get a laxative into her every few days (she has issues).
When she smacks the spoon out of my hand, just, ugh. Isn't 13 months old early to be this willful? My goodness.
Re: Feeding is a contact sport (Rusalka)
As a mom of an independent small human, I feel your pain. DD has refused to be spoon fed since she was 1. Unfortunately, the only way for it to get better is to allow your LO to do it herself.
Stoneyfields Organic has a line of organic yogurts in a plastic sleeve live a popsicle. Those are great for self feeding when you need to keep her clean but get some yogurt in her.

@Rusalkasings Owen is the same way.. at any given time he will decide he no longer wants me to spoon feed him and he swats it away.. yogurt and oatmeal are the only things I really spoon feed him.. (and, usually I put some cheerios on his tray so he has something he can pick up and put in while I'm speed feeding him yogurt on the spoon).. he likes "playing" with utensils more than using them.. I rarely put a "bowl" of anything on his tray (because he'll send the bowl flying), but if I give him a fork he'll place food on it with his other hand, and then insert into his mouth.. sort of getting the idea
