What percentage of the original price do you expect to pay for used furniture that is in good condition? I am looking at buying my kids twin beds that can turn into bunk beds. I would like to find a high quality set used. One lady has a beautiful set on Craigslist, but is asking very close to retail value. I am thinking of offering her 2/3 the value of the set. Would you consider that fair? I understand they are in excellent condition, but at the same time they are "used". What do you all think?

I agree with Eaglesfan. I would pay less than 50%. I prefer to buy it new than pay more than 50% on something used.

Well..the reason I am willing to pay more i suppose is that they are quite expensive new ($1600) and these are in practically new condition...so it would save us quite a bit to get them for say $1000, but I don't know if she will go that low. I am bad at making decisions. I also need matching dressers, which she isn't selling,

I'd wait until it's been up there for a while and then offer her 50% of the retail value. You never know - a lot of people set a high asking price because they expect to be lowballed and want to be able to bargain. And she may go for it if she needs to get rid of them and hasn't had any good offers.
