Nebraska Babies

Daycares

I am 12 weeks and my mom just asked me about daycares (yikes!).  I haven't even started looking yet! What do you ladies prefer... regular daycares or in-home day cares? I am a FTM, so I am a little lost in this. How old do most daycares start taking babies? What I am looking at in terms of cost? Any recommendations for daycares?- I live in the Benson area.

Thanks for your help! :)

Re: Daycares

  • So I really have no suggestions on Omaha as I live in the Grand Island area but I think that it really just depends on personal preference.  I know that the costs also depend.  I have chose an in-home daycare and its $15 cheaper then the regular daycare.  I don't know if this is normal or if its just because I live in a smaller town.  I also want to say that in-home day cares don't provide you with diaper stashes all those type of things but the other day cares do.  I think that its just best to just call around and ask questions! :)  Good Luck!

  • My daughter goes to The Goddard School on 180th and Q.  We LOVE it.  We went from my mom watching her to going there at the age of 2.5 and it was the most comfortable I have been anywhere.

That being said, it is very expensive.  I am willing to sacrifice some things to allow her to go there.

My daughter loves it.  I am also a teacher, so having a structured learning environment where there are standards and lesson plans and certified teachers there was really important to me.
  • Where in Omaha do you live? I've toured some daycares, and I haven't been really impressed. I don't live in West Omaha though. From what I've seen, daycare centers run about $160-210 a week. My dd will be going to the CDC at Offutt.
