1-When they sit up on their own and have really really good head control. 2-when they exceed the weight limit. but probably once they are on the move independently (Crawling/cruising)
TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

He has really good neck control, uses the exersaucer just fine, but can only sit up on his own on the floor for a shirt amount of time. Is that ok or no?
You are really the only one who could probably tell...if you want to try the park swings then go for it. I stopped using the swing at home once DS was crawling. He was also really long and he out grew it pretty fast. DD doesn't like the swing. I'm sure it will go up pretty soon.
We have a little tikes baby swing that hangs in our tree. We put our LO in it when he was unable to sit unassisted and he did just fine. We just didn't swing him fast or high and of course watched to make sure he didn't fall over.
Our DS is five months and 17 lbs... Could still technically go in the snugabunny swing for awhile. But now that he is bigger and more alert, he doesn't really want to sit in the swing anymore.

My daughter is almost 4 months and she has already used the swing at the park. It is really deep so it held her well. Her head and neck control are really good but she can only sit a few seconds unassisted. I didn't push her very much but she loved it.
I would read the info that came with your swing. It would tell you weight and height limits as well as other guidelines.
My LO was just under 4 months when I put her in the swingset swing for the first time, but it was more or less just a place for her to hang out while her big sister played on her swing. She's really just started to be able to actually swing in the past few weeks (around 5 months) since she's been sitting up really well on her own, and now she LOVES the swings.
I packed up my in the house swing when I brought out the jumperoo because I only want one freestanding baby device in my living room at a time and DD seemed to want to be upright more. That was right around 4 months.
